Vortex Razor 4000 HD rangefinder

I bought this rangefinder and what it can do is amazing. It ranges small objects at great distances that other units fail or struggle. However yesterday I went shooting and the unit would not turn on. I replaced the battery and nothing. I knew Vortex would warranty it, but that did not help me now in the peak of coyote season. I took it back to the store I bought it from and they treated me right and agreed to exchange it. They had five new units and only one would turn on! I wonder how long this one will last? Bad batch? Anyone else experience this?

I’ve seen problems with Vortex products over and over again. This is just one more example to add to the list. Good thing they have a good warranty.

Well, the new one shit the bed on me this morning on a coyote hunt. Same thing, just quit turning on. When I got home it did start working again. Vortex had a new one shipped VERY FAST great customer service truly no questions asked. However I decided I can’t put up with this reliability. I exchanged it for a Leica 2400-R. This is obviously not as powerful as the vortex and I really have a hard time seeing the very fine LCD display in bright conditions. Really a bummer, I loved the Razor 4000, powerful, adjustable easy to see display, really a great unit. Hopefully the Leica treats me right, anyone here have experience with Leica units?

I think you will like the Leica. They make great optics. Sorry about your Vortex glass. I have seen them fail dozens of times. They have always been good with their warranty though. Personally, I’ll never buy Vortex because of how unreliable they are.
