Saw that Vortex has came out with a new Ranger 300 HD rangefinging bino. I do not see many reviews out there yet. Wondering if anyone has had any experience with these and would care to share a review. I have been looking into a rangefinding bino for a while but have not pulled the trigger. I have Viper HD binos and the Ranger range finder. Thinking an all in one unit might be the way to go. Thanks in advance for any reviews on this product.

I have been testing them out. No complaints. The glass is decent and the rangefinder works very well also. Pretty good outfit for the money. I will use them this hunting season.

Heres my report from this past fall:

I bought a pair on Columbus Day deal from EuroOptic for $600 + Tax. And Ive used them for deer hunting.

I have to say that I like them a lot.

The glass is basically between Viper & Diamondback glass. Not as "nice" of glass as the Fury,'s but nicer than D-backs. The Scan feature worked fine for me. Unlike the one I had when I was at Cabelas. The scan only works for about 10 seconds before it stops and I just have to reclick it to start again. Not a huge issue. If after 10 seconds I cant get a good reading. Then I need to stop anyway! Lol.

I used them in the extreme cold the last two weeks, like -15°F temps in the deer stand. I was able to glass up several deer each day and range them accurately out to 330 yds. No issues. (Not that the rangefinder only limited to 330 yds, but thats just where the deer were that I was ranging.)

The rangefinder is MUCH clearer than the FURY. I find the Fury numbers to be fuzzy if the optic is clear and the numbers clear when the optic is fuzzy. So I have to have kind of half fuzzy and half clear.

With the Ranger I dont have that issue at all.

Now theyre no where near as clear and sharp as my NL Pures. I notice more cromatic abbrasion (spelling?) And the edges werent as sharp nor was the field if view near the NL Pure's. But thays also the difference between $600 optics vs $3000 optics! Lol.

But I purposely went late season deer hunting to give them a try. And it was more than adequate.

I plan on them being my go-to bino for summer prairie dog hunting. And would have ZERO issues with them being my primary/only hunting optics if that were the case. Having a rangefinder and bino all in one is just so nice.

One thing I wasnt a fan of was the Vortex bino harness. It was too loud. Like it crinkled when I would pull them out or put them back.

I have an Alpz bino harness that is MUCH quieter, albeit a little snug, that I switched out after deer season.

But thats certainly not the binoculars fault!

When I consider a Viper binos are $400 and theres a lot of $150-$250 rangefinders that's $600-$700 is the best of both worlds all wrappe into one.

Im happy with my purchase. But I also am happy with all my Vortex. And because their warranty covers glass AND electronics (unlike many companies that dont cover the electronics part) for me it was Vortex or bust. So I'm just glad I like the binos. It was a complete win all around.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy again nor recommend then either.

I bought a set when they were introduced. They work just fine. The glass is good but not top-tier good. I bought them hoping to save some weight. Do not do that. My Meopta Meopro HD 10x42 binos and Vortex Razor 4000 RF combined weigh exactly what the Rangers weigh. I am still undecided which way to go. I think they are worth the price you listed but not much more.

I also was not happywith the bino case. I bought a Striver gear harness.

And also to fill you in on turkeys.

My Father In Law wouldn't put them down. I had my NL Pures, and my FIL always "forgot" his Redfield Rebels!

I also have to admit, I specifically was only looking at Vortex. Just because of their Warranty. Vortex is one of the only companies I know of that warranties the glass AND the rangefinder for life. Everyone else is like a 4-5 yr warranty.



Now all that being said. My local Fleet Farm has a Halo K2000 on sale for $350. I was in the store the other day and have to admit those would be adequate too. Esp if you are on a budget. Amazon has these Halos for $300 right now.

The Halo glass was fine (in the store) and yes the RF is black numbers, while the Vortex is a nice red. But not a
deal brraker for my FIL

My FIL is looking at the Halos just cuz of the price for prarie dogs next month. Granted my FIL needs 600-1200 rounds of .223 ($500-$750) plus RF binos, plus gas, hotel and food.....so hes not looking at $600 Vortex and the $300 Halos are saving him a bit.


All that being said, I REALLY like my Ranger RF Binos.

They'll be more than adequate for you.

One thing also, Cabelas is offering 12 months no payments/interest on anything $500+

I know people $hit on Cabelas/BP and for the most part their selection is so-so, but sometimess if you watch you can find solid deals, stack points, discounts, deals. I do it all the time with gift cards, points and no payments/interest.
