Vortex Rangefinder

I have never owned one. Vortex makes some nice products (scopes and binos). But I have heard that some guys have had issues with the RF.

I checked one out at BPS and sportsmans. The one at BPS was a POS and would give me a variance of 3 yards on a taxied boar at 27 yards! I was not pleased.
I went to sportsmans and the one there worked much better.

I found a deal on one and figured if it malfunctioned the warranty would cover it........so far it has been working just fine. I will say though that it WILL NOT function to well outside of about 500 yards. I spent some time during a mid-day pig hunting trying to get it to hit anything past 500 and over an hour I got one reading at 536 while my brother and cousin were useing the old bushnell scouts and would get readings into the 700 and all the way up to 1066 (they are not rated that far).......For my use 500 is fine...if I ever wanted it to really start reading 1000 I can just send it back until they get it fixed.

The speed is super slow compared to almost every other model out there, but it fits my needs for what I wanted in a range finder.

you can also do a search as this topic has been touched on at least 2 or 3 times before.

I have one, and love it. If you're looking for high end optical properties, Leica and Swarovski options have better 'glass', however, for just ranging a target, mine is accurate to within 1 yard every time.

What issues have you heard Justin? I'm really thinking about buying it soon. My leupold angle comp for bow is only good out to 60yrds.

The issues I have heard were complaints of slow read outs. Yardages being off a bit.

I have never used it. Just researched that when I was in the market for a new RF. seemed to be a common complaint from guys. Vortex is a great company and makes great products.

I settled on the Leupold 1000i TBR /DNA. It has worked flawless and a great little unit.

Thanks Justin, I think that I will still give the vortex a shot. They make great optics and have great customer service.

The issues were on the first batch and if you think it is off you can send it in to Vortex to verify and correct.

Dotman is correct! If any are not satisfied with the operation about any Vortex Optic send it in please & they will take care of any issue with no hassle at all, they have a fantastic service dept & extremely quick.

I called Vortex about the Rangefinder 1000 & asked about any issues & what amount of the Rangefinders were returned for service? They said out of the thousands sold that less than 1.5% had a readjustment of some kind, mainly a laser realignment, that's it guys. That's nearly 99% not having issues, that's pretty good. Adjustments or repairs can happen with any brand of Optic, Vortex will take care of them for free & for the life of the unit, even if it was run over by your rig. (grin)

I was at sportsmans warehouse today and checked them out. Man is sweet! The bright red reading is way cool. No worrying about low light issues and being able to read the yardage.

Paul, I'll be getting one from you real soon
