Vortex over Swaro? Am I high?

I'm planning on replacing my 15x56 Viper HD's for some better glass and I just assumed I'd get the 15 SLC's.

Now I'm confused as hell. I recently went to Cabelas to take a gander at the 15x56 SLC's and I also looked through the 18x56 UHD. Am I crazy to think the Vortex had a sharper and better image? I mean I seriously preferred looking through the UHD's than the Swaro's. Now the guy at the counter did tell me that I need to come back and take them outside when its a low light situation in the evening and he said I would notice the difference between the two and assured me thats where the SLC would stand out. So I still need to do that, as well as check the edge to edge clarity a bit more, but initially I was shocked. I probably wouldn't do the 18x56 if I went with Vortex but would probably do the 12x50's UHD...am I crazy to even consider the UHD's or should I just shut up and stop sounding ridiculous and buy the Swaro's?

Whatever one I pick will be my main piece of glass that I carry. I'll run them on a tripod 70% of the time until I can save up for a premium spotter.

I had three pairs of UHDs over the last month on the porch checking stuff out and was very impressed. Haven’t compared to SLC 15s but the 12x and 18x were very sharp.

Love the responses

But seriously, has anyone spent a good amount of time behind both to have a good idea of how they compare? I know I'll probably do the Swaro's but I was just taken back by my initial looks between the two.

I have not but just consider this, vortex has a much higher failure rate and resale isn’t great. If you are ok with a failure while hunting, save a little cash if the view seems equal to your eyes.

I went from 12x50 Razors to 12x50EL's. There was no comparison, Swaro is so much more clear. Go to a store that handles both products and then go out to the parking lot and scan for a pickup at the farthest distance you can find then look into one of the fenderwells and see if you can read what shockabsorber is on it. And besides I would never trust Vortex's warranty ever again, which you will use. And yes I have a strong hate for anything Vortex.

I cannot speak for theUHD 18x...I have a set of 15xHD Kiabab and pit them against my 12x56 Maven and 15x Swarovski, and friends 15x Meopta... they are not close...while not bad I would not consider them in the same class as sharpness and brightness. I'd probably grade them

1 Swarovski (slim margin--as I say a bit of sharpness and fit and finish)
2.Maven/ Meopta --id consider a tie--as each do something different good
3 Kiabab (by a margin)

Beyond high.. it just doesn’t work out that way.

The technical differences between optics do not mean as much as what you see when you look through the binoculars. If you believe the UHD is superior to an SLC then for you it is, whether or not that is reality or not.
I do suggest tripod mounting outside to see if that is still how you see things, but if it is, save the $$$ and get a Vortex.

My buddy has the older Kaibabs 15x and we had my Meoptas and his Kaibabs side by side on a hunt in AZ....and even he admitted the Meoptas were brighter with better resolution.....BTW, at 1/2 the price of Swaro 15s

There are some of the best reviews on the internet HERE on Rokslide of all of these if you search.

The reviews might surprise you between the Swaros and the Meopta's.

I can't speak to the UHD but I've looked through my father's Vortex 10x50 Razors vs my Swarovski 10x50 ELs extensively this past season. The differences were so stark that I wouldn't even say they're in the same league. I didn't mention it to him until he asked to try mine one day and now all he does is talk about how huge the difference is between the two.

Yeah you're Snoop Dogg high.
Man $200 binos look good in full daylight.
Go back rite before dark, And or rainy day. Take them outside and try to look for fine stuff under trees and such way out.

I'm not saying you need Swarovski for what you do.
But I am saying there not even close in low light.
