Was thinking about picking up a second tripod for my spotter and binos, wanting to go carbon fiber to cut some weight. I have an aluminum Manfrotto that I shoot off of, but its kind of heavy to pack around. I would just buy a Manfrotto CF one, but don't want to pay the price for it. I have looked at the Vortex Carbon Summit, but was curious if anyone has had any experience with it? Or suggestions for other tripods? Thanks.

If your mainly after cutting weight why not go with a Summit SS? Its alum, but 1.8lbs with ball head or 2.0lbs with pan head, which is over 1lb lighter than the Carbon Summit....

I have the SS-P and it works really well for its weight. I would like to change the head out on it because the quick attach on mine isn't 100% tight but that's my only complaint.

I hadn't even looked at the SS series from Vortex, that's a good suggestion. What about the Slik 624 or 634, any experience with those?

Had the summit SS. Now I have the Slik 624. Easily superior. Very compact and super stable.

I'm not a fan of ball heads. I love that slippery two axis movement of a pan head. I can scoot my optics around w my eye socket. If I had to.

Yeah, I was kinda wondering how good of quality those Vortex tripods were, sounds like Slik is a better option. Thanks for the input.
