Virgin brass and load development

If you’re looking for the best possible chance of tight es/sd then fire it at least once if not twice. If you’re just shooting I would Neck size and send it assuming you already had a safe load to start with, and all components are the same including brass brand

I made a similar post last week regarding the differences in velcoity/pressure between new brass and fired brass. The consensus was that if you find pressure on virgin brass, you should be backing off of that 1.5g to 2g. The only difference here is that I was factoring in a new barrel with it speeding up as well.

I've always found pressure with the first firings out of a new barrel and new brass but I think that's a mistake because you're just setting yourself up to do it again. My plan to test on my next barrel is to load some mild rounds to help form my brass, at least 100 pieces. Then from there, find pressure with that fired brass and back off of it. Any new brass will get tested to try and match the same velocity and I'm hoping it would shoot well enough there to not have any issues until all of my brass is formed and I can back off to the original load I found.

Hope that makes sense.
