Any one used this in a 300 Rum or 6.5 PRC yet?

I’ve used it in my “300 Nancy Improved” with great results, but I need to find 5 more pounds before I commit to shooting it for the long term.

Piercision Rifles Kelbly/Proof 26”300 Norma Improved

Lapua Brass
Federal 215m
Berger 215 Hybrids
I ran it all the way up to 3240 with slight pressure.
There was a very nice node at 3140, and it shot 1/4 moa before any seating depth testing.
I ran a test with IMR 8133 and hit pressure at 3150. VV offers better top end, butvwhen comparing the velocity flat spots, 8133 was flat at 3100 while 565 was flat at 3140, so even though I could run it 3200+, the usable speed difference was only about 40 fps. 8133 fills the case up quite a bit more also.

I will say that between testing the two powders my new barrel appears to have sped up, because 88.4 grains of 565 was 3140 the first time, 3160 the second, and 3205 the third time out with it. (160 rounds down the barrel, with the first 100 at 2650 fps to fire form.)

I’ve got final testing loaded up and if the weather cooperates today I’ll be shooting seating depth tests in my PRC and Norma today. In the Norma I’m committed to 8133 as of right now, because 8 pounders can easily be found. Midsouth’s rumor is I will have more 565 by the end of April. The only projections I’ve been able to get for 570 is late October.

Nice!

You going to try the 565 in the PRC?

Ryan, I bet 565 would be killer in the PRC, but I have 7 pounds of RL-26 and a node from 54.8-55.4 that has a 7 fps spread. Shot it yesterday also. Seekins Havak 24”. 3000 fps. I have a hard time getting a consistent throat measurement with the modified case, but it looks like it likes .025” jump the best so far. Factory length shot under half an inch, but was jumping.120 or so.

My guess is that 565 would give more velocity? 8133 would work also, but I think you’d have to scoop the brass full and stuff a bullet in to get enough speed out if it-just a guess.

I get it. I am using 56 grains of RL26 in my PRC. It's shooting 3045 with a 26-inch barrel.

I still might have to try the 565.

I’d be surprised if 565 produced more speed than RL26. I’d think 7977 is more inline with PRC case capacity than 8133.

Ryan I thought you were running 4831SC? 7977 is right in line with H1000. If I chose not to run 26, H1000 would probably be my next try.

I hunted with that load, but switched to 26 after the season.

Damn my Havak is only running 2930 with 55.8 grains of 26 and 147s . Seems most 24" barrels are around that 3000 mark. Slow barrel? Slower batch of powder? Or could it be the hornady brass im using? Could brass make that much difference?

I can get similar speeds with Hornady and Bertram. I also know guys getting 2940 with 22 inch barrels.
