Was curious if anyone has used the Veteran Broadhead? It's a mechanical broadhead but apparently has 1.25" cut folded. Expands to some 3" I believe? Anyone with knowledge on this particular product would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a pack on clearance for cheap at Walmart with the hope to use them on turkeys. Never shot one since the folded blades were too wide to clear my riser. First time I drew my bow with one on, the blade hit the riser, popping the nock off and rattled to the ground; falling razor blades and no arrow on the string - always a great combo!

Beyond not being able to draw them, the collar mechanism appears like it would cause significant drag through an animal. The blades weren't very sharp either. Glad I only paid $15...but I guess I know why that was.

Are you sure? Lemme post a pic to see if they look they same as you described. I was under the impression from what I could tell, though mechanically operated, there wasn't a collar like the ones we see on rage hypo?

Those are the ones!

The collar I'm speaking of is the red band below the blades; it locks them in for flight, but is designed to let the blades deploy when it gets drug through hide. Once deployed, there is a spring loaded ball bearing that is supposed to open the blades wider; I have my doubts however that it is strong enough to get the 2.5" cut hoped for.

I shot a doe with one a couple of seasons ago. She turned at the shot and the broadhead caught one lung and liver. Pass through. The entrance and exit holes were both about one inch. The arrow was laying in some tall grass, did not go into the ground, the blades were fully expanded. We were a bit surprised that the exit hole was small so we took the time when dressing the doe to see what happened inside. There was about a one inch hole though one lung and a one inch hole through the liver. Very clean cuts. For some reason the broadhead did not open while in the deer or on exit but it did by the time it came to rest in the tall grass. The broadhead blades were exceptionally sharp and it flew excellent.
