Season open here Friday...I was able to tag a decent 8pt..Gonna try to this Euro myself. I skinned the head and applied velvet lock...currently is sitting in the sun for the 72hr cure....

Any suggestions/tips on how to clean the skull with the velvet on after the velvet lock has cured...low simmer or anothe alternative method...I am all ears.

Also he had a few ticks embedded in the velvet anybody know if velvet lock will cure them as well?...kind of want to leave them in place.
TIA

I've only done one Euro in velvet, so not a lot of experience. I removed the antlers and did the skull like normal, then epoxied them back on.

I wrapped the bases in cling wrap and black tape then foil. For the rest of the rack I just covered each side with trash bag sealed tightly to base portion with black tape. Then put in pot like normal.
I didn't have any velvet come loose.

Ticks will crawl off and leave now the blood isn't fresh.

He went from the field to the cooler Sat night, dropped him in ag field so loaded him whole...so the ticks stayed...They were still there this morning..30 hours into the cure time with the velvet lock...
What you did was what I was planning on doing...wrap them up and slow and low on the boil.
Thanks
