Vehicle Window Tint

So... There was a thread on another forum, and apparently more people than I thought have very strong opinions on window tint...

I've always had the front side windows match the glass on the rear. Plus the last few trucks got a pretty low eyebrow, the same darkness. Usually around 20%

This truck I did 70% on the whole windshield, and 15% on the fronts (matches the factory Ford dyed glass from the outside.)

What do y'all do?

Depends on the vehicle and how much light it lets in. Normally I match the back. My current work van is a ford transit with way too much glass up front. Plan on doing the vent windows in 20% (so I can still see the mirrors, front doors in 5% or 10% and undecided on the windshield (it’ll probably break right afterwards anyway).

Well in Oregon something around 30% is the darkest legal. In driver/pass windows. So 35 is all that's really made.

For years I always did 20% to match the factory rears.
My last trucks I use for hunting alot so I did like a 40% with a 20% brow and factory rears. Its not what I love during summer but helps. And its alot better on late season dark rainy hunts.

On the truck that's not really a hunting truck its 20 over the factory 20 in the rear. And I honestly can't remember up front. 35 or 20

And all my trucks have canopies, so that makes them more shaded as well.

I'd stay away from any tint on the windshield. Saw a guy ram a fallen tree because he didn't see it with his blacked out windshield.

I always match my front windows with the rear and put a 5-10% brow. The brow is more so to keep light off my dash from my roof mounted 50" Rigid light bar.

The brow is fine/normal. I'm talking about doing the entire windshield.
I'm pretty sure this is not legal in any state. I know for sure this is a bad idea, have a good friend who owns a performance auto shop and does tint daily, some ask for it and almost always come back with a story and accident.

Exactly. Hence why I was not recommending it. Tint shops will put on whatever you pay for. Unsafe or not.

LEOs can easily spot windshields that and even lightly tinted. Especially when the rest of the windows are 20%.

I try not to do things to give them the probable cause they need to stop me in the first place.

I don't tint any of my front windows. I like to be able to see out of them. My back windows came factory tinted. If I could have chosen, I wouldn't have tinted those either.

25% on the front windows
Limo on the back windows and rear window usually 5%

I have my front windsheild tinted. Its like a 80%. You can barely tell its there but does help with the radiant heat and glare.

None at all. My '97 came with a 35% film all round when i bought it. I drove it like that for about 6 months then ripped it all out. There are times i wish I had a little during the day, but at night, I don't regret it in the last. I wouldn't ever go back to a tiny on any window.

I have 20 ceramic on all sides and 50 on the windshield. Wife has the same on her 4 runner. Been years on each vehicle, multiple states and never an issue. I will say in the south window tint isn’t a big deal compared to the north. Even the police tint their windshield down here. The sun is to bright and just too damn hot not to tint em.

I own a Window Tinting shop in Reno and have been in business 32 years. I match my two fronts' 20 percent to match the back factory tint and put a 5 percent Glare strip on the windshield of my chevy trucks which I turn every three years. Everybody has different taste and vision but that is what suits me. That is one shade darker than legal in NV.
Federal law on windshields is 70 percent and anything added adds to that value and makes it illegal but people ask for it all the time, I usually talk people out of tinting the windshield cuz it is not only illegal but there is a lot of water that runs down that is hard to capture, and some tint shops have fried computers unintentionally. Get in an accident and your insurance agency catches on the illegal tint they may try to deny the claim. As someone mentioned most tint shops will put on whatever a customer wants but I drew the line the other day when some young dude came in and asked me to tint his whole windshield 35 percent. Morally, I think it is wrong and want no part of him getting into an accident and hurting someone else.
