Variflame ignition issues

Has anyone had issues with the Variflame ignition system? I recently converted my CVA Accura LR-X .45 to shoot the Variflame primers which comes standard on the Paramount. I used CCI No 200 large rifle primers and shot about 50 rounds with no issues. I took it on my muzzleloader elk hunt and got hang fires and misfires with every shot. Tried roughly 12 primers and they all had issues. I put in fresh BH209 and cleaned everything and still had issues. Needless to say that bull got away. Threw the standard 209 breech plug back in and had no issues. It was cold wet and snowing on this hunt. The only thing I can figure is that the flash end of rifle primers aren't sealed and the humidity was enough to damage the primers. Has anyone else had this issue?

Most conversion kits call for large magnum primers. Should help.

FWIW I run CCI LRMP in my arrowhead conversion with no issues ever. Accura LRX 45cal with Parker bullets sized to bore. This is the way.

I converted a new Encore Mrx to veriflame iginition and are using CCI large rifle magnum primers with no issues of consistent ignition. However, my groupings are not as consistent as I would like them (2 to 2.5” at 100 yards supported). I am noticing the veriflame cartridges are coming out all black which I am assuming is blowback and that may be part of my issue with the groups!!! Has anyone had similar issues or can offer some feedback?

Yes, sounds like your Variflames are leaking. I’m assuming you’re using BH209. I’d stick with 209s. Variflame offers no advantages.
