VAP and deep six inserts

I heard they would work together but picked up some inserts and couldn't get them to fit into my 300 spine VAP. Has anyone done this with success? Any ideas on what to do to get them to fit?

I ran into the same issue and tried to push it in with pliers. Didn't work. So I improvised. I took a 22 cal rifle bore brush, put it on a drill like a drill bit and bored out the arrow to increase the diameter in a controlled manner. That worked fine, but took too long and ruined a good brush. I was over engineering it and trying to get a perfect fit. The next 11 arrows I simply put a field point in the insert first and then got the insert started in the end of the arrow. They usually go in an 1/8 of an inch by hand. I then put the arrow perpendicular to the top of my work bench (tip down) and pulled down on the arrow as if pushing it into the table. Nice steady amount of force, basically using your weight as you pull down and it popped right in. I just wasn't pushing hard enough the first time and suspect you might be doing the same. After that, once you get a sense for the amount of pressure to use it went very quickly. Probably don't even need glue because they are very snug, but I did anyway.

I used the brass brush method and I was time consuming and ruined 3 brushes. The ends of my VAPS are starting to mushroom and splinter from normal target shooting. The arrows were sweet while they lasted. I wouldn't do it again

I think the mushrooming can happen with any arrow and the the HIT style insert.

I've had mine for a year and no issues with mushrooming. Almost doesn't seem possible because they're carbon...very hard material. Either it stays together or breaks. Not much "give".

I have VAP V1's 300's with deep six inserts from Easton. Lightly sanded the part of the insert w/the threads and that works really well for me

I ended up using a small drill bit with a small piece of 120 grit sandpaper taped to it and lightly sanded the inside of the shaft. Test fitting each as I went. Seems to have worked well.

I did the .22 brush trick. I didn't use a drill though. I just twisted the brush in & out about 20 times by hand. The insert would then go about 3/4 the way in. I then just used a field tip and a hard surface to push it all the way in. Didn't take much pressure at all. Nice and easy. I only added the deep six insert for a little extra FOC. I put on the firenock outserts and love them. They all spin true and fly straight. I've flung a few in the dirt shooting long range and haven't broke or bent anything yet. Way better than the VAP outserts. I bent plenty of the SS ones.
