Vanguard vs Vortex vs Athlon Spotting Scope?

Hey yall, I've been interested in buying a spotting scope but my budget's tight now since I'm heading to med school. My brother has a Vortex Crossfire 80mm spotter that we share. For our hunts here in Souther CA it does the job, but I was wondering if anyone has experience with other "budget" spotters? I was using a Vanguard 10x42 before getting my EL 12x50s a few years back and honestly, the Vanguards were great. If anyone has some experience with the Vanguards, Athlons, and Vortex, what were some pros and cons yall noticed?

I won a hawke from doug years ago, it has gotten the job done for me. if cost is the primary consideration, it'd be an option to consider.

I had a vanguard for a few years and loved it. It was leaps better than a buddies diamondback and a little better than a gen 1 viper.

I put an Athlon Ares 15-45 up vs the new Crossfire 15-45 this winter and it wasnt even close. The Athlon stomped it in all regards. The CA on the Crossfire was atrocious. Ended up returning the crossfire.
