Welcome man. Enjoy it while you can it goes fast like Robby said but then they get to an age where they want to hunt or fish with you and that’s even cooler.

Congrats

it feels that way at first, but pitch in and help mom and you might be surprised how much she'll support some free time to hunt for her man to recharge.

It goes by fast!

welcome to Rokslide!
Thanks, Robby. I asked about distance on your last IG post (warcrywasmund).

Mom is banged up and unable to care for the boy so I have been providing 95% of his care. Mom has already nominated me for dad of the year and agreed we need a side-by-side and big spotter (help, please!) for next season so we can ALL GO hunting together. I'm into it.

Your comments about taking care of your house, family, chores, etc. aren't lost on me. I paid more attention to those than the hunting comments as evidenced by the number of animals I've put up. LOL.

Here are a few we've tipped over (mix of clients and friends). I'll let you guess which are public and which are private!

Utah guy. Just had a kid. Looks like I'll be spending more time reading about hunting than hunting.
I’m in the same boat just to the east of you in Co… one 18 month and second due in July… it is definitely a free time adjustment but I’m excited to take the little ones with in a few years. Rokslide lets you chat about hunting a whole bunch which is nice

Graduated from CU, cowboy'd in walden and lived in the vail valley... fine state you've got there.

Well said Robby! My little guy is already 5! It really does go by fast.

I fully agree what that statement. My wife lets me hunt as much as we can!

Now he’s old enough to be tagging along!

Help out as much as you can and don’t be a Utard.

You got this!

I’m in the same situation in Tennessee. Been doing a few out of state trips every season for years along with hunting around the house every day I can. All that came to a halt this past fall. I now have a 1 year old and I’m hoping I can get out more next season. I’m all for hearing advice from other more experienced dads on how to navigate family time and hunting time.

Welcome. Also from Utah and the wife keeps bringing up kids more and more so I will most likely be in the same boat in a year or two.

I picked up a boat this year in anticipation of not being able to get out as freely as I do now. Seems like duck hunting and fishing are a little more conducive to half day outings.

Yep. I got an upland dog for that. Still hike hard, see big mountains, get a workout.

We can drink beers and shoot ducks out of a canoe when we’re 80… we can only climb chukar hills for so long… but I love that you are finding ways to work with it!!

Had to take a break from out of state hunts for a couple years. I have two boys ages 4 and 2 and a new baby girl added to the mix. The oldest goes in the osprey pack and goes with me when I take kids out for the Montana youth hunt. It's a good workout and he looks forward to it all year. Next year the second oldest will go in the pack and the oldest will have to walk!

Here's what you do. You look your wife dead in the eye and you say, "Some things are going to be changing around here, and I expect you to be on board..."

I went chukar hunting once...climbed to the top of the hill and all the birds flew to the bottom. I repeat, I went chukar hunting...once.

I will still get out and hunt deer, no question about that.

Yep and the next thing that will change is how you file your taxes.
