Yeh, I remember buying my tag like in late August to September timeframe in the 2010 - 2015 range.

Seems like 2 or 3 years ago something went wacky.

I waited too long. I logged in around noon and they were sold out. The depression is sinking in. I'm a new rifle hunter and I figured that many tags wouldn't go that fast. Have they gone that quick in previous years?

Each passing year they have sold out quicker than the year pervious.
I looked at 10 and there were only 1700 left.

Curious to see what spike only does now the license quota is lower.

But but but….Randy tells us there aren’t enough hunters and we need to recruit more!
To play devils advocate. Could it be that with more people in the draw its hard to get other tags leaving more people looking for the OTC tags because thats all they can get?

I guess that would still mean more hunters. Carry on.

How many were in the que? That’ll give some idea if more tried to get one or people just got smarter and bought as soon as they could.

I got on 15 minutes before the sale time and was like 12,300 in the que. I was seriously shocked there were that many on line.

There was a proposal to sell an unlimited amount of tags to gauge numbers but it was capped at 17,500 this year.
Towards the end you could get on with no wait.

With the human population growing exponentially (will soon by at 8 billion), all of our favorite past-times and hobbies inevitably will become more and more popular. The # of tags arent growing nearing as fast as # of people and folks that are getting into the hobby.

The biggest problem is you have 370 million or so who all want their little slice of mule deer and elk winter range throughout the west to build their McMansion. I saw somebody complaining about a new high rise apartment building in Boise the other day and my only thought was good, that’s 270 units of housing that might keep a few people from building in the hills

I got my muzzy tag. But yeah... the past three years has been nuts trying to get OTC elk tags here.
