I've struck out in Nevada on the first draw and looking for options for August. I saw that this unit has lots of leftover tags that will come up in July for first come first serve purchase. I can always wait until the last minute and buy Oregon or Idaho and I've been looking at Idaho units adjacent to this Utah unit. Any comments on whether this is worth the time and effort? I do know already that despite the size of the unit that there is much private land and unproductive land.

In general, can a guy find enough room in good spot and stalk terrain to make it worthwhile? Thanks

Nope.
Not worth it. Unless you have access to private.
I grew up in box elder county

When Utah was still using deer regions a fall back area of mine was found on public land in what is now the Box Elder unit.

PM inbound.

Hey guys, i am literally in the same boat as pueblo. This is my first year bowhunting and i didnt draw a tage so I just got an OTC for box elder. Ive used the maps online to look at the public land and this past weekend I took a trip up there to check it out. Problem is I am having a hard time getting access to the public land there is. I am not asking for anyones exact spot but if any of you guys who have hunted that unit could let me know a road or access point that would put me onto the public land I would appreciate it. I thought I found a few roads to get me in but they were all gated off with private property postings.

Hey Muleman I appreciate the info that you gave me up unfortunately I have not been able to get a hold of Darren. I called the Ogden DNR office and although nice, the girl wasn't all to helpful. So my question at this point is, does anyone know of the one mile road on the north side of the raft river range is still open to the public to access public land? I can't find anything online except for an old article back in the early 2000's about a land owner trying to close access to it. I tried going onto the usfs website to look at their motor vehicle travel map but for some reason the sawtooth/raft river map just says file could not be located when I click on it.
