I'm preparing for my first elk hunt in the fall of 2025, and am hoping to purchase a used pack that can be used to pack meat if anyone in our group gets lucky. I know there are a lot of cheaper packs out there that would get the job done, but I would rather get something a little better quality with a few miles on it.

For sizing, I am 5' 6" with a 34" waist. Looking for something with a capacity between 60L and 80L. External frame is preferred. The Mystery Ranch Metcalf (old model) and Beartooth seem to be two examples that would fit the bill. I am hoping to stay under $200 if possible.

Thanks in advance!

If you can't find a used one, keep an eye on Camofire. If you sign up for an account, you can go in their vault (all free). Right now they have some Mystery ranch packs in there. In the size you want they are more money than your budget. There is a new 2023 Metcalf for $330. But smaller ones are less. They change out the inventory quite a bit. So sign up for daily deals via email, and check the vault frequently.
