USA USA USA

We're diehard St. Louis Blues fans as we lived there and had season tickets. The Blues have been nearly unable to beat this guy with Winnipeg lately. I have a whole new respect for him now though.

I am a real American

Both photos give off similar vibes.

I'm glad the elbows up fans watched their Canada lose. Canadians make their whole identity around hockey and Tim Hortons and as an Albertan wanting independence I am sick of it.

I’m glad USA won but anyone that thinks they weren’t outplayed is lying to themselves. 3 on 3 worked out for us this time but it needs to go. Its almost as dumb as ending NHL games with a shootout.
I understand the argument about being outplayed but another part of me says that the scoreboard is how that is determined. Canada had more shots on goal, and more possession time, but that does not directly impact score. That is simply a statistic, no different than other statistics. It's like saying the USA outplayed Canada by having more saves. I realize there is more to it than that but ultimately it is pucks in the net that determines who won, everything else is just static noise that is interesting and provides talking points but doesn't matter at the end of the game.

Agree that I don't like the 3x3 format for OT. It's not the same game when you take half the players off the ice. IT would be like determining the winner of a baseball game by having a home run derby instead of extra innings.

Aside from being outplayed for 2 periods...We NEVER trailed in 3 elimination games vs better teams than Canada had to play, including against Canada.

I did some quick math looking at box score sheets of the 3 elimination games for both teams, including gold medal game....

USA- Held a lead for 115 minutes of the 180 regulation minutes. NEVER was behind in all 3 games

Canada- Had a lead for a whopping 6 minutes in all 180 minutes! Trailed in all 3 games, Finland almost the entire game.

Stats speak, so what if we got outplayed for 2 periods, thats why you have a world class goalie to backstop you when you arent on your top game. In no way should Canada have gone to OT vs the Czechs, they were supposed to steam roll them, or be losing to Finland who was without their top player in Barkov. I enjoyed every minute of watching the games, but to say the USA didnt deserve that win and the gold, is just ignorant. Both are great teams, and it would be great to see these international rivalries continue more than just every 4 years. And the Slovaks proved they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in years to come as well

The analytics say Canada should have won 6-2. That doesn’t mean I don’t think USA didn’t deserve it but the win did come with some lucky bounces for you and some unlucky ones for Canada. Sometimes you get goalied. Which is cool with me, my son is a goalie.

So, in your scenario, Helly doesn’t make the save, and Mac doesn’t miss in the next 9 tries, but in those next 9 tries, both Toews and Mac still have the shot or the open net chance again in all 9?? Sorry bud, it doesn’t work that way. There is no ‘EXACT’ same game. I wouldn’t criticize their effort either, but in OT, Makar didn’t have the legs left and they didn’t have another skating D man for the 3x3 without Morrissey. Leaving Schaefer at home is what did them in.

Ouch. Such a burn…

And here I was actually hoping you had something real to contribute to the discussion
But yeah, it’s well over with. Better bounces (and roster construction) to you in 4 years.

I know, not very original but you really are missing my point so I’ll try and explain it again.

Obviously the same game will never happen again. The point was the bounces went your way and not ours. How often does MacKinnon miss that shot? How often does Hellebuyck get that far out of position and make a miracle paddle save?

Not very often.

They both just happened in the same game. Plus at one point in the third Canada had out shot the USA more than 2-1.

We out played you, you got the bounces and we didn’t, your goalie wasn’t exhausted because he hasn’t played 60 games for the dirtypeg losers yet and he’s one of the best all time.

Good for you guys, it’s great for the rivalry but acting like you are the goat (in hockey) is a stretch.

Do you get it? Probably not, I’m sure you’ll argue some more but I am a smarter hockey guy 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Best of luck out there and keep your stick on the ice!
