Anyone have any feedback on these? I never see them mentioned in the "looking for a new optic" threads. Probably a hint right there.

I kept seeing them with a booth at local events and didnt realize until recently that they have a mfg facility a couple of miles from the house. Wonder if they ever do warehouse sales???????

I ordered an ARD from them, they delivered it 2 years later. That is the extent of my experience.

Does it actually manufacture optics? From what I've read on the net, I was under the impression that most of their stuff is Chinese now. I think they were bought out a few years ago.

They used to be very highly regarded in the .mil/.gov world. Haven't heard much from them in the last decade or so.

Agreed. They were considered to be very reliable, high-end scopes at one time, very heavy, stout and with good adjustments.

A friend has 3-4 of them and he had the best/worst buying experience with one. He received one with an MOA reticle that wasn't calibrated. He called them and they immediately sent a replacement scope, on his word he would return the first one, which he did, but first...

He received the replacement within a couple days and it too had an MOA reticle was not calibrated. He called them again and they sent a THIRD scope out to him, again before receiving either bad scope back. The third scope they sent was perfect and he still has it. I have never seen such a stark contrast between "quality control" and "customer service". I can't believe those scopes passed QC, but they did him right and he had a working scope within about 10 days of his first complaint.

I used to set up a lot of rifles for students, and kept a few USO rifle levels in stock. They are/were nice solid units, easy to recommend and some sort of level is critical for good precision at long range. One day, I put three of them on the same rail and found that none agreed and only one was near correct according to my Starrett machinists level. I contacted USO and they told me that the devices were not intended to be absolutely correct, but to be used as a comparative device to ensure the same rifle position shot-to-shot on one given rifle. One was at least a half-bubble away from the others, but, according to USO, not defective.

I almost picked one up for my last rifle build, but it seems like they have a bad reputation for quality/consistency.

You can find videos of them driving nails with them though, so I’ve always been curious about their durability. Their EREK knob was pretty cool when it first came out; and they’ve done zero stop elevation with capped windage for years. The ones I’ve looked through seemed fairly good to very good; at least at the store.

Would love to see one tested.

Frustratingly, the second one doesn’t show group so I’m a bit suspicious of it retaining zero.

I also remember seeing one years ago where they used a USO to beat another scope to pieces, but it doesn’t seem to be around anymore.

I don’t know, the GAP isn’t that bad. Certainly nothing incredible, but looks pretty usable.
The SRM is almost identical to mavens SHR. I can get bye it on low power low light but definitely not optimal. The GAP had no "Center" dot or box or X and has very slim lines, I feel like this would be very hard to use low power low light. Beyond a functional standpoint I don't think there is a reticle that checks all the boxes, yet.....

I have 2 MR's, 1 TPAL and 1 SR from them, I am not kind to my gear but I really like them, good so far. MR's have Schott glass, clear, no distortions, SR is LPVO 1-8 with daylight bright dot in center, TPAL 3.2-17x44 is also very good. Very beefy overall, heavy instruments. I had few TS series from them, sold them, meh. Foundation series is worth consideration. To my eye, reticles and illumination are so well executed they are pleasure to get behind. Extremely legible. They are not for everyone, USO specialized into specific purpose optics, not necessarily all around tools.

Many years ago, our M40A1 rifles wore Unertl scopes-fixed 10 power. When John Unertl died, US optics bought the company. While I was part of the rigorous testing (banging in tent stakes) back then for the Unertl's, it is my understanding they were not able to keep the scope durable, but I have no first hand experience with their current scopes.
