I do a lot of upland hunting here in Michigan which can be brutal on clothes. For reference my first pair of Filson tin chaps was toast in about 10 years and I hear many people say they will last a lifetime. Now about 8 years into my second pair and this time I opted for the double reinforced bottom hem (which I don't even see as an option anymore) but these are holding up better for sure.

For my top I have not found a good option right now I am using a heavy shooting shirt Cabalas I think, and it is holding up ok but sucks for breathability and dumping heat. For reference mornings can start around 30 degrees and end up around 50 to 60 in the afternoon.

I would like to wear a merino base with a light breathable windproof jacket that has pit zips. The main thing it needs to be very tough and able to go through hell.

Thanks

Lightweight, breathable, wind proof and tough enough to “go through hell” is going to be a remarkably difficult combination. Something may exist that meets the criteria, but I don’t know what that is going to actually be. If this is your criteria, you may have to simply accept that this garment is going to be ‘disposable’ and you’ll need to replace it often.

@mtwarden may have some ideas based on his experience with gear like this, but not certain he uses it busting brush the way I believe you will be using it.

Thanks for the idea this one does not have pit zips but their upland Jacket does. I went to my local Orvis and they had a XXL which fit well but a little short I am 6'6". I still might get it just debating it now.
