Unknown suppressors OG testing

I tried out the OG this morning. I didn't have anyone else around to compare volume or tones with, so I only have my own impressions.

I was not expecting otherwise, but it is not as quiet as the Scythe Ti. The first shot with my OG did make my ears ring slightly. It definitely was better than firing unsuppressed. I will almost certainly only use it on longer rifles in the future.

This is also probably user error, but the 1/2x28 adapter got stuck on the muzzle and came off the OG when I unscrewed the can. There was no easy way, that I could tell, to get it removed. I had to put the can back on and tighten it down, then unscrew it again. In a pinch, I could have used a pair of pliers, but I don't like that there is no flat surface for a wrench on the adapter (I recognize the design limitations).

If anyone has any suggestions for avoiding this in the future, that would be great.

You could probably use a small spanner wrench to take it off. Do you need to move the adapter to a different rifle? I would Rokset the adapter to the rifle and leave it installed.

In my opinion, you need the tool to really put in the adapter. If I was US/UM, I would not sell it without the tool.

I edited the post to add this, but I was using it on my CZ 527 in 6.5mm Grendel with 18" barrel.
That doesn’t make me very hopeful for higher pressure stuff like my 7bc and 6.5 prc

I don't see it as a problem unless you are switching between suppressors with different sized threads (or one has a 5/8 mount and one has a 1/2 mount). When I pick up my OG (today hopefully) I have adapters coming for two specific rifles, both have the smaller 1/2 threads. I already use an adapter on the one rifle. So I will be Rocksetting the adapters onto both rifles. I don't want the adapter coming off (but I ordered the tool just in case).

I haven't done it yet but if you look at the tool and the adapter it seems like you have to Rocksett the adapter into the suppressor and not on the rifle.

The gun I am shooting with the OG also had a Scythe on it when I got the OG. It's definitely noticeably louder. It hurt my ears too. If you value the opinion of little people my boys were on the couch inside and said it was louder too. Scythe is 7.3 oz...I think OG is around 10oz? AB raptor 8 w/reflex is probably a closer comparison and its WAY quieter but heavier at 13oz and some change. The OG wasn't designed to be the quietest; I think it meets the goals they set out to accomplish. I prefer it to the Scythe on a gun I will actually take afield because the Scythe is fragile and I don't like the removable end caps and I don't like the way it shoots without the brake on it.

I think if you Rocksett and torque the adapter into the suppressor and just do the Avery "snap" on the barrel you should be able to get everything off the barrel with a strap wrench. I have one of the old UM 1/2" adapters on my 22-250 barrel that I'm ready to pull and I think I'm just going to throw it out with the barrel if a quick attempt doesn't remove it. They are only $40...is it worth the trouble?

IMO, No way in hell would I Rocksett the adapter into the suppressor. This can will potentially be used on three different rifles, two with 1/2 threads one with 5/8 (and when this rifle is complete the OG will be the primary can for it). I've also got other suppressors I move around, all with 5/8 mounts. I guess if you ONLY have 1/2 threaded barrels 🤷

Adaptors on the barrels, call it a day.

Yeah, that.

The OG fits fine over the Down Range Products thread adapter #4248

I know that cell phone microphones don’t really do anything for most people, but here is a video of the first shot.

Scythe Ti for comparison.

No way on earth I am going to Rocksett an adapter onto the barrel. Or Rocksett an adapter into the suppressor. I will probably just leave it on one rifle without that step.

My first requirement for a suppressor is hearing safe for at least one or two shots. I don’t like my ears ringing after putting on a suppressor. I will need to test it some more before I decide how much I like the OG and which rifle it sits on permanently.

The odds are good that once I get my RSS in 6.5 CM back from its barrel and stock job, the OG will go on it and never come off. I have thought about swapping it around on my .270 and .25-06, but I will have to do further testing regarding that. I might have an AB Raptor purchase in my near future.

Is the OG closer to the TBAC U5 g2 or the Scythe

Yeah, that.

I do like the look of that adapter (and included thread protector) as far as the wrench flats are concerned. And you can buy two of them for the price of one from US/UM. But getting that out of the can if it got stuck there would be fun. That is definitely a candidate for Rocksett to the barrel.

Yep, I have 3 of them Rocksett to barrels. If they ever had to come off it's easy enough.

Isn't it going to be easier in the long run to boil the entire can and remove the adapter with the tool than try to get a round adapter off a round barrel when its shot out?

The "one can for all my barrels" guys need to shoot a 30 round group every time they take it off and see how they feel about that prerequisite afterwards.

I think I'd just get a new adapter if my barrel was shot out.

If squeezing a wet paper towel on your muzzle device takes care of roksett, how the hell does it stand up to hunting or shooting in the rain/snow?

Because it is the water vapor that gets into the threads.
