I just returned from a caribou hunt in unit 23 state land.We saw a few hundred caribou harvested a few nice bulls and had a great time.I saw lots of cows and calves and the bulls that were harvested had plenty of fat on them. What I did not see in Kotz was resturants with patrons or planes flying around with people being employed and working to get enough money to subsist on throughout the winter.I did hear from older folks that said without donated meat they did not know how they were gonna make it.Unfortunately for them every scrap of meat I harvest I use for my families own subsistence.I was just glad to pass some money around to my air transporter and a hotel owner to help with their subsistence.I have always considered myself a subsistence hunter but since I live in Juneau the feds say I am not one.I guess we will just wait and see to what happens next year with this criminal closure.I hope the locals in kotz and elsewhere don't starve to death before they make up their minds
