I would like to hear from anyone who has hunted Unit 60 in Western Colorado. This will be our first time to hunt this unit and would appreciate any advice, cautionary tales, or anything else you are willing to share. On paper and from maps the unit looks pretty good but would like to hear from you what your thoughts are.

Much appreciated!!

Enjoy the first couple trips you'll learn the area in no time. Half the fun is exploring, colorado and the west in general is a patchwork of public and private property that doesnt have to be fenced or signed and the responsibility is yours to know where you are so a good gps, map and some redundancy like onx is nice to have. Once you get a feel for otc elk hunting you'll likely understand why folks are slow to offer internet advice

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I've been OTC elk hunting in CO for a while now, just not in Unit 60. My hunting partner works for a mapping company so we have maps, public/private designations, elk patterns, etc., etc. Not looking for particular spots to "steal", just wanted to know if anyone has had success, advice, etc, to share. Thanks again.

Hunted there a handful of times
If there isnt substantial snow prior to your hunt I wouldnt holdout hope for many elk that area seems to be used later in the season always saw lots of nice bucks though so that's a positive.

Thanks gents for the feedback. You confirmed quite a bit of our thoughts going into this. We will make a decision a few days before (weather based) on whether we go to 60 or 15 up near Steamboat. Love to see new country but would love to take an elk as well.

limited elk, lot of bears, few deer. Lots of dessert and a lot of patchy private. Not the best unit, don't get your hopes too high.
Seems like you've hunted there a lot. I was wondering if you have ever had any success there? I was planning on hunting 60 or 62 this season for mule deer and elk. My first time hunting CO

Is the bear population decent in there? Have bear tag for 70 and 60 was thinking might check 60 out for bears?
