Arctic Air.
Whats you estimate and or what did you see for the current backlog? It would appear with the current forecasted weather that they will not be able to get back to on schedule for at least a week. Thats making an assumption the weather gets better and allows for flying more than a couple hour window every few days. Any comments or thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks

I was stuck in the field 5 days longer than planned. They run one plane with one pilot. They have no contingency plan to accelerate the clearing of logjams - I asked about that on day 3 of the delayed extract. Weather and flight hours are their hurdles.

We were also delayed going into the field by 2 days. Weather had them backed up there as well. It’s a game of hurry up and wait.

In the field, our food ran pretty low. By day 4 of the delay, we were leaning on caribou meat almost entirely. Then wolves got into our caribou meat on the last night and made a bad situation worse. Glad they were able to get us when they did.

I just got out of the field from a hunt in Unit 23 yesterday. We were in the field 5 days longer than planned due to weather. The bright side was that gave us some great opportunities for extra hunting time. Caribou we saw were sporadic, but definitely there. We did not see herds bigger than 10 until our last day … with most being cow / calf groups.

I think the best is yet to come after these cold winds / snow. When we flew in on Aug 13, most of mountains were barren. Flying out yesterday, all mountains were snow capped. I was able to take a bull on day 2 of the extra hunting time we were given by the weather gods.

Anybody have an update from today regarding the backlog of transporter flights in and out of Kotzebue?

I texted Bryan with Ram Aviation yesterday regarding the situation and he said that It’s been a tough weather year so far and that they currently are not backed up, but thought they might be after yesterday’s weather. He also said they can keep up pretty good if theres a break in weather every few days. He’s not pulling his hair out yet but is taking it day by day

Artic Air is backed up. One group has been waiting 5 days to get in. 6 groups in the field now trying to get out. I was told that yesterday. My group cancelled.

Yeah. They were into the 5-6 day mark delaying going in. Sons vacation wasnt gonna allow for a sit in Anchorage /Kotz waiting for the backlog to clear. Good luck to everyone else.

16+ Arctic Air customer who had not been placed in the field yet from Aug 26-28 were told our hunts were over today and to arrange travel home. We all just spent 6-8 days in the hotel waiting. No refunds offered as of now.

Yikes, that's a bite!!! What's the story there? Sounds like more than just weather delays.

Holy cow. That sucks.

Is it just Arctic Air that is completely backed up or are the others unable to get people in and out as well?
