The other day while out on a walk I pulled a real boneheaded move. The result was me basically tossing my RSS about 4-5 feet and it landing scope first on a volleyball sized rock. The rifle looked unscathed by my stupidity but the scope….not so much. Enlarge the attached photos to see a pretty good ding in the objective bell. It’s a SWFA 6x42 milquad I bought second hand on this or some forum. The previous owner did the mods, which I like. Looking through it post incident, nothing looked amiss, but I had my doubts. It was a pretty hard blow.
A few days later I had time to check it. Hung a 8” steel target up at 100 yards and fired one from a seated position off a tripod rest. Ding. So maybe it’s not trashed. I wasn’t as steady as I wanted to be and the wind was gusting so I plopped down prone resting on my backpack and waited on the wind. Yep, it got knocked off to the right. Quick look made me think .5-.7 so I moved it .6 and shot number three was the result. I looked closer and realized I should have really moved it closer to a mil so I added .3 for a total of .9 mils of adjustment. Fired shots 4-5-6. Seems ok. Next time I get some range time I’ll dial it around and see if anything shows up.
