A couple questions about the unpronounceable puffy from first lite.

First, how much does it weigh? I've seen anywhere from 19 ounces to 25 ounces.

Second, does the puffy fit big? I normally wear a large jacket, but I've heard that they run a little large.

I'm trying to decide between the super down hooded from KUIU or the First Lite. I love the idea of lightweight and packable with the super down. Primarily as a backup for sitting and glassing or as an emergency layer. But the first lite sounds more versatile as a more useful outer layer, although I have plenty jackets to choose from in my gear bag.

My Size Med. weighs 19.25 oz. I am 5'11" and 180lbs. I wear a large in MOST tops. Coats, shirts and sweatshirts. However the Med fits me perfect. So you are correct, it runs a TAD big.

Yup size down in this one. 6'2" 210, still wear a Medium in the First Lite.

Haven't compared it directly to a Superdown on the mountain but it does weigh twice as much and packs about twice as big based on the specs.

I like the Uncompaghre for a true outer layer capable puffy. I've hiked in it without sweating, weathered some nasty wet snow storms without a shell, and it still takes the bite out of most winds. Most reviews seem to agree.

For your intended use as a backup/emergency puffy and to use while glassing, I'd go with the Superdown since it will likely be in your pack more than not. Size matters!

I have the uncompahgre and the superdown I wear A XXL in the superdown and a L in the uncompahgre I ordered an XL uncompahgre at the same time and it was definitely too big I'm 6ft 220ish

As far as warmth I went rabbit hunting a few weekends ago and it was 4deg outside so I wore the uncompahgre under my Kifaru LPP and after about a half hour of walking around in was sweating pretty bad took off the LPP and hunted the rest of the evening in it I believe it got up to about 20 deg during the day and was comfortable. Later that night BSing by the propane heater outside the hotel it was about 2deg outside and it was a little chilly.

Wait a month or two, kuiu has a new superdown coming out, 13.4oz more or less, designed to do what you're after, packable and more of an outer layer. Double the insulation of the original.

That jacket is going to be a BEAST in the late season. Super light for what it is in my opinion too

I have both and my favorite is the FL. I think it is just the right amount of jacket for what I use it for and also like how it preforms when its raining or snowing. Ive been out in an all day soaker in it and stayed warm (granted it was in the 40's not the 30's but still rain all day long). I find that they fit a little big but still like my large in FL, I can put it over whatever I am wearing when I stop to glass.
