Uncle Sam's best hunting gear??

I was at a surplus store and a guy and his buddy were trying to blow air into the little valve on Mickey Mouse boots. The lady working didn’t know what the valve was for. My brother and I were laughing at them. They were so convinced that you filled them with air I still don’t think they believed us when we told them otherwise. True story

I wear military mid-weight grid fleece as my base layer and wear the USMC issued Polartec beenie. Keeps me warm.

Wiggy's bags when I truck camp or base camp... Bunny Boots when it's real cold... I like the rain gear for around camp when I can bring it in my truck because it's over sized, comfortable, works, and I don't care what happens to it. That's about it for me.

This stuff right here....Amazon.com: USMC Coyote Brown Polypro Cold Weather Undershirt Polypropylene (Medium): Clothing

and here Amazon.com: Genuine USMC Issue Coyote Brown Polypropylene Drawers (Medium): Clothing

This is the warmest stuff I have ever warn, 99% of the time i cannot even wear the top as it burns me up and gets me TOO hot while walking. Put a spandex layer underneath such as under armour stuff, and this as a middle layer, under any hunting pant and I almost gaurantee you will be warm anywhere

and they are super cheap!!

only negative....do they breath the best.... no, they will make you sweat and hold it on your skin

Dont laugh but i am going to throw out there the mickey or bunny boots. My feet got cold in them once, but then a member here told me to get my feet hot in them and now they work great for the treestand.

x2, they work awesome for moose hunting in the winter when I'm out on snow machines and honda's.

The level 5(patigonia) and level 7 pants are great. The level 7 are a little heavy but as other posters said wind resistant and durable.

Iv used bdu and had a catastrophic ripe out of the crotch in pouring down rain, not sure if it was the pants fault or mine...
Iv used ilbe pack whick was good, the molle 2 ruck sack, which is ok, and the molle 2 day pack which was ok too. The pro for me with both the molle 2 packs was shirt torso length.

I have used the Bunny Boots for several years for Midwest White tail hunting and ice fishing. I carry them in and put them on once in a blind or tree stand. With chemical toe warmer in them I can stay out sun up to sun down.

For those of us that don't mind a little extra weight in the pack and more money in the wallet. What is some of the military surplus equipment you use on hunts?

Amazon.com: Polartec Fleece Pullover, Coyote Brown, USMC Issue, Made in USA (Medium): Sports & Outdoors

I've worn this fleece pullover under my Uncompahgre and kept plenty warm in the woods.

That fleece is a little expensive. I don't think I've paid more than $20-$25 for any fleece jacket I have, and I have a bunch of them. I have some of the ECWCS base layers from when Cabela's was clearing them out one year. The polar weight works fine for stationary activities.

That fleece I just got one weights only 9.5 Oz in small size. It is really warm for the weight and got it for only $3 at a yard sale.

I was looking at that same fleece a few weeks ago. How does it fit? I usually wear a large but sometimes a medium on larger cut clothes.
It fits like a Medium. I will be using this one on top of the ewcs Polartec base layer gen iii,the peloton 97, then the outdoor vitals medium size over those two and the USMC Polartec fleece small size over those 3 pieces fits perfectly

Thanks… That post was from seven years ago. I’ve been wearing it for years now but swap it out with Swazi gear on occasion.
