Very interested in this. Have a boundary water's trip coming up, lots of hiking and I eventually want to take it hunting. what do you run for sleeping? Also, I want a rather large ultralight tarp. any brands?

I use a kifaru slick bag or a group 1 equipment quilt depending on temps, and I pair the skeleton pad with a therm-a-rest z-rest to add warmth, a little extra cushion, and most importantly some redundancy.

For a tarp I use a seek-outside DST tarp with trekking poles, or a big Agnes fly creek ultralight tent. I like the tent because for minimal extra weight you get bug netting and a floor. The DST tarp is definitely the minimalist option tho! And I think reasonably priced compared to the kifaru sheep tarp or stone glacier tarp.

The dst tarp looks GREAT! I plan to do some hammock camping but I want to have something like that overhead invade it really starts to pour. For the tracking poles. Do you need a certain kind?

The dst is very versatile. As for poles, you can get a $30 set at Costco that will be “fine” or you can spend more. Like most things, the lighter and more compact, the more you pay. I like black diamond!

Interesting. They might come later, as we will be portaging a canoe with big packs. But an extra light hunting with trekking poles is in my future. Do you have a light rifle as well? Seen LOtS of mixed reviews on recoil and quality control issues. Also I have not limited means, but I’m not rich by any measure so I’m afraid cutting weight there is not the space

I don’t care too much about rifle weight but in Alaska I had a Tikka t3lite in 300win mag, it kicked like a mule but with a threaded barrel and a brake it tamed it considerably.
