Anyone use a UL puffy quilt over puffy pants for extended glassing in the cold? Thinking it would be about as effective and much quicker to stuff away and go if needed to in a hurry to make a play on an animal. Seems like a lot of situations you don’t want to take off after something while wearing the puffy pants, so your stuck taking the time to remove them and stuff them away. Thoughts?

So there's plenty of time to put away your optics, tripod, seat/stool, change upper torso clothing to accommodate a stalk, etc. but there is insufficient time to take off and pack puffy pants?

The only real issue with wearing a puffy skirt is wind blowing up it. You have to reheat that cold air over and over. While you could potentially save a couple of seconds with choosing a skirt over pants, any tangible time savings would be mostly gone with a few minutes of practice.

Recommended Answer: Practice setting up to glass and to pack up with the focus on speed and quietness. It is free and can dramatically reduce your time to get ready; coming and going.

While wearing a skirt it not my cup of tea, others can do what they want. There is another thread on this site talking about the benefits of wearing fishnet stockings while in the field. That too is not necessarily my cup of tea. However, this could be a great opportunity for some WKRs that want to be on the fore-front of the next major hunting clothes fad.

do you already own both? if so try each different set ups on hunts and see what works best for you. Personally, my full-length zip off puffy pants take maybe 20-30 seconds to put on or take off

I don’t use either and never have. Just wondering if anyone uses one. I don’t use a seat either. Probably should.

Not exactly what your saying but I have used a synthetic blanket (woobie) and my sleeping bag to stay warm while stationary. You have to deal with more drafts and you loose the warmth on the move option but it works fine.

I had this primalot blanket i picked up at costco for super cheap and i used it a couple time in the field until the dog ripped it up. But i had planned to sew it so that it had somewhat of a footbox on it like a sleeping bag or quilt so i could pull it on and cut some drafts. I have puffy pants as well but thought that the blanky was quicker and easier to put on and stuff away when done.

I have a cheap down blanket from Costco and I have a kifaru woobie, as well as the black ovis Puffy pants. More times than not, I gravitate towards one of the blankets, and the big thing for me is that it is just long enough to cover my legs, and go over my boots. While covering my boots it helps keep my feet from getting cold if I sit for long periods of time especially after they get sweaty. So that's a big plus to me, other than that, weight wise they are pretty similar, but that little costco down blanket goes with me on almost every late season hunt! Plus if my legs are warm, I can use it wherever feels cold! I just tuck it under my legs and can minimize most drafts too.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I’ll purchase both and experiment. I can’t see pants being as quick and easy as a blanket but I can see them being warmer
