"A Ukrainian sniper unit on Thursday reportedly broke the world record for the longest confirmed sniper kill, eliminating Russian Troop from a distance of more than 13,000 feet (4,000 meters). The shot, fired by a Ukrainian-produced rifle and aided by artificial intelligence and drone guidance, left two Russian soldiers dead in the area of Pokrovsk, Ukraine, the Kyiv Post reported. The record-breaking shot was made on Aug. 14, 2025, using artificial intelligence under the guidance of [an unmanned aerial vehicle] complex with a 14.5 mm alligator rifle," said military journalist Yuri Butusov, according to the Kyiv Post."

One shot, two kills? Nice.

I don't know anything about AI, but I'm definitely curious now how AI was used in this situation.

My guess is that AI handled the compensation and coordination between the drone spotter and the rifle optic. Something along the lines of having a geo ballistic app loaded on both the drone and the optic. The "smart scope" is fed all of the relevant geo ballistic data: range, wind direction/speed, barometric pressure, elevation, angle compensation etc from the drone in real time. The shooter then delivers on their end with with a proper setup, trigger technique and recoil management. Welcome to the future.

Everything you just said makes me extremely worried about the future of hunting.

I would think that shooting those distances would move into the realm of complete computer control of ballistics/ scope DOPE and is beyond manually determined adjustments.
At those ranges, I wouldn’t think that there would be any, “ Ehhh….I think that data’s a tad off. I think I’ll add in another click. “

Did the rifle have a muzzle brake or a suppressor on it? If it had a brake on it then I’m sure he didn’t have any fellow soldiers around him. If a suppressor then he would have been able to get that second shot off if needed.
