You shouldn't have too much trouble finding a factory 300 WSM with a 22" barrel.

Reliable? Ask 10 different people, and you'll probably get 10 different answers that span a $2000 price range for factory guns.

Get the 338 RPM! - Everyone and their mom has a Tikka 300 mag, do something different.

How about old school. 300 weatherby magnum?

30 cal seems perfect for what you want vs what you already have.

That would be a pretty cool option but a quick Google search for 338 RPM Canada doesn't show any rifles or ammo. I did find brass, $82.99 for 20 pieces!
That's $83 CAD though that's nothing. ;) Im a big fan of the 300 wby as keystone suggested

Does anyone remember where to find a pic of the .223 Eargesplitten Ultra Mag?

I still don’t understand the “Everybody has one” remark for .300 win mag. Of course they do.

300 WSM is a good option. If you want more bear punch. Well since 400 is you fange, what about 375 Ruger or 338 Demon. That is the Ruger necked down to 338. That should handle the bear thing. You could pick up a 340 WBY.

All these 300 wsm suggestions. I've shot the 300 wsm for years and love it. But brass and ammo are a problem. If starting new with a 30 cal mag, I'd give the 300 win mag a hard look just for this reason.

300 win mag if you care more about component / ammo availability. 300 WSM if you want short and compact. Some have experienced feed issues with 300 WSM myself included

I was just handling a savage 110 bear hunter in 338WM, all stainless, was a nice piece. Was thinking to myself who in the world needs one of these. And then this morning this thread pops up. I’d make a case for a 300wsm. But that brown bear part makes me want something carrying a little more weight. Hopefully you are happy with whatever you end up with.

Easy...

Canadian Rangers chose a Tikka T3 Arctic model with 10 round DBM.
I belive they see more wildlife then most.

Boring and reliable are good characteristics when it comes to hunting.
Can get ammunition everywhere and both do goats at 400m or bears.

Prophet River has rifles, dies and brass and I did see ammo somewhere as well. Unfortunately everything is pretty expensive these days.

The OP hasn't checked in since posting but "North coast of BC" sounds familiar ;) Light and compact sure does sound good, a 18-20" barreled gun would be perfect.

Also went through this recently, after agonizing about the latest fads in cartridges, I finally settled on a new T3X in .30/06. Would have went with a .308 but already have several.

Prophet was where I saw the brass. They may have received rifles since. That's a good sign.

They have a lefty TI Backcountry but it's out of my price range. They had a RH Backcountry a couple of days ago but it's gone. Hopefully someone on here snagged it!
