Hey,

So looking for some advice on two way radios/walkie talkies to use on hunts. Need something to communicate the stalk to a buddy looking at it through binos and help guiding in. This past hunt lack of those cost both me and my hunting buddy a deer each. Looking to use in AZ brush with range of 1 mile through trees would be great. Looking to pick a pair but know absolutely nothing about them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Is the garmin rino really worth it though? the reviews are mixed and the price at over 400 each seems a bit high. Like i don't mind spending the cash I just don't want to overpay for something that doesn't work as advertised.

Take a look at the Midland radio review in the sticky section of this (gear) category.

Hand signals work well...
At what point do we just hunt and turn off the electronics? Possibly use some skill and a little bit of luck to bag an animal. Using radios to guide hunters in is illegal in many states and questionable ethics in every state outside of Utah (unless Mossback is guiding in your state).

You are absolutely right. Completely changed my mind on those. My next deer hunt I will be barefoot, naked, and chasing the deer with a pointy stick in hand. My buddy can be on top of the hill giving me smoke signals. Back to the basics. This will completely change the game.

No two way radios/ cellphone communication allowed up here to hunt...I have used them to call for help in retrieving downed animals. We also can't use salt licks, feeding, electronic calls, same day flying, shooting from roads, drones, etc....but we do alright :)

Not to sound rude... but have you ever hunted in AZ in the rugged nasty thick brush? Trust me, there’s a reason radio use is 100% legal in Arizona. It’s not exactly like your talking someone in right on top of an animal either. Stalking in that country is extremely loud and you have to be a good hunter whether your using radios or not.

When someone asks for help and I have something constructive to say, then I usually say it. If I don't agree with it, then there are other ways to go about that without telling someone to "use some skill".
