Could not find a thread that did a direct comparison. Does anyone have experience with both? Will be dedicated for nrl hunter use and PRs sportsman. Primary goal is stability. Is there a substantive difference in the two? Everyone says buy rrs and don’t look back. But, the two vets had a 2mm bigger diameter leg so I’m trying to decifer what about the two could be that different to justify the extra cost. The other option I looked at is the recon inverted. I’m generally a buy once cry once guy, but struggling to see a difference. If anything, I would assume the two vets would be more stable.

Two vets imports from china just like sirui, leofoto, benro, etc. Same stuff. (All those companies have American employees too so I don't wanna hear anything on that angle)

RRS is not chinese, and have really really stiff carbon.

I would never assume that any chinese tripod would be more stable than any RRS.

Baasically, once you get into that price range, RRS is the only option that makes sense.

Thanks, that’s exactly the answer I was looking for , so the CF is actually a higher quality?

Yeah RRS is to carbon tubes as Swarovski is to binoculars.

But if I were going to overpay for an imported tripod specifically for NRLH/PRS, it would be the T3 Dauntless. That thing is nice.

The stiffer tripods are going to have much more optimized fiber orientation arrangements and lower resin content. They are going to be pre-impregnated carbon fiber cloth whose orientation is optimized by layer into molds by with heat and pressure applied in an autoclave.

Cheaper tripods are going to pulltruded which is basically a weaving machine going through a bath of resin into a constant cross section mold/oven. You end up with a constant weave and higher resin content but at a much lower cost higher volume.

I'm sure the RRS is great, but I couldn't justify the price and went with the QDT. It is a great tripod and I have no complaints with it. Plenty sturdy enough for me.

Very interesting, thank you for the information

I’ve got the dauntless and it’s a beast. Had the 22ic but it was a tad too short. Add the brass weights and now that sucker is super stable.

If you’re going to be shooting off the tripod clipped in, RRS is the way. The carbon may be better, but the tolerances in the apex of RRS are far superior and give much less mechanical wobble. If you’re bagging on top of the tripod or using it for glassing, I don’t think it matters much. RRS is typically lighter for the same or more stability.

I currently use the Anvil 30 on a Two Vets Recon V2. Super stable shooting platform standing, sitting, kneeling or prone. I use it hunting, range etc. The only reason I would ever consider switching to an RRS would be to the Utralight 33. But is it worth $510 to save 1lb?

I have a dauntless, primarily over the others because it has the apex lock out function for rear support (which i dont even use much). I think a fatboy would likely be even more stable but doesn't have the lockout. Fatboy with their leveling base seems to be incredibly stable with the only compromise being limitation of angle compared to a ball head. For Midwest PRS matches that seems like the way IMO. The wider range of motion on an anvil head is a bigger upside in NRL matches for me where you're more likely to have an unlevel apex compared to flat PRS firing lines but that is just my experience based on a limited number of match venues.

I just sold my RRS TFCT 24L because inverted leg locks and fewer sections is way faster but it was obviously a higher level build quality and seemed as stiff as the dauntless with smaller diameter legs.

Thanks for the help guys, the rrs deal didn’t happen as it sold before I got to it. A member here offered me a good deal on a recon. I’m going to give it a shot. I have a buddy with a wide array of heads to try out, including an anvil.

If for some reason I find the tripod to be my limiting factor, which I doubt it will be, I’ll consider an RRS or dauntless. I think if this doesn’t achieve what I want, the RRS 22i is very enticing, but right now, saving the 500 is priority
