Due to our son’s obsession with killing turkeys, he’s been nicknamed by a friend “Turkey Tom”. Well, yesterday he was able to connect on the bird that’s been eluding us since youth season opens on the 8th. After April 1st this bird locked up with 2 hens and wouldn’t gobble on the ground and wouldn’t leave the hens. Yesterday they were coming down the edge of the field at 1pm. I told him to put down the Mac and cheese and let’s try and get in front of them. We sprinted across the field and got set up above the trail they were on in the cedar draw behind the house. Within 10 seconds of crouching next to cedar the birds came around the corner. A couple clucks to stop them and it was good night Irene. Turkey Tom got his first kill with the new shotgun he worked for all winter. He’s shooting a Mossberg SA 20 Bantam with 3”, 6 shot , 3.25” dram equivalent loads. These loads are hell on . His name isn’t actually Tom.
