Tule Elk

Hello has anyone done a DIY Tule elk hunt? Just wondering if it is possible or if all these elk are on private lands. Or If there are public lands where it can be done alos are the tags on draw or are there OTC tags avaliable? I have not done alot of reading on this subject yet just looking to see if anyone has any experience with this.

Tule elk, at least in the Owens Valley, are very doable for the do-it-yourself hunter.

No OTC Tule tags. Pretty bad draw odds even for residents! If your a non res you have a bout as good of odds drawing a sheep tag.

Elk hunting in CA either needs hitting the lotto in pulling a tag, at least for bull tags or hitting the loto to pay for the private landowner tags. Good chance at success if you get the tag though on public land. I've seen some nice bulls on Hunter Liggett and on Grizzly Island and it would be very doable for a DIY hunter

Second with both above posts they can be hard to draw as in all elk tags in CA. Fort hunter ligget is another good hunt I've heard

I've never drawn a tag there but yes you can bow hunt it from what I've read if you draw the tag.

Thanks guys looks like I better start applying before I worry about hunting cause I sure can't afford a land owner tags if they cost 20k
