Any reason I shouldn’t be considering this bullet for ak moose? 180 grain overkill? Seems like a little more speed with 168 might be the way to go.

I shoot 165’s out of my .300wsm, mainly because the rifle seems to like that load/bullet. 3 moose so far, and the TTSX has performed flawlessly.

Can your 300wm stabilize a 180 grain ttsx? That's a long bullet. Other than that, it's more than enough. Our moose don't wear armor. The 168 would work just fine to.

I hand load a 300 H & H...the 200 gr LRX is a long bullet, yet seems to shoot in my old Remington 700,
first time I've loaded the 200 gr LRX...in the past I've loaded 180 gr TTSX and 180gr Nozler E-tips.
Here is the first load from this morning, 200 gr LRX at 100 yards:

So I found some ammo in Canada. Doesn’t look like I can buy it. Can a US FFL dealer buy retail ammo from Canada?

Well… quick Internet search indicates that this is also basically a dead end.

Killed my first 2 elk with the 150 ttsx at 3300, killed my last one with a factory 180 ttsx all from a 300. Shoot what you can find at this point. I like the 150s flat trajectory. Couldn’t tell a difference in any of them other than the recoil. Best wishes

180 gr TSX are are a bit more accurate in my WM than 180 gr TTSX and the 175gr LRX was more accurate than either. I tend to hunt with what shoots best but any of them will work. IMO, there is no reason to go to a 165/168 gr bullet if shots are under 300 yds unless it is significantly more accurate in your rifle or its all you can find.

My Remington 700 300wm loves the 180grain TTSX. Although my one moose was taken with a bow, I can affirmatively state the 180grain can put a mean hurting onto an elk...

Also heard really good reports from friends shooting the 200gr LRX.

I harvested a caribou, black bear, sheep, mountain goat, and moose out of the same box of 180 gr. TTSX - regular old Barnes brand off the shelf. My T3 30-06 has always liked the 180s, so I never tried anything else. Because I am not a match grade marksman, I generally practice with something cheaper and then run a nice one through to make sure it hits the same area. That Tikka seems pretty forgiving though. I've never noticed any issues with whatever I've fired through it.

Good find!! I’m going to use Federal Terminal Ascent until I find the 180 TTSX more readily available.

I had Choice Ammunition make me some for an Alaska trip. Like $100 / box, but it was the bullet I wanted and drop in bucket in grand scheme of things. They shot okay out of my bergara b14 hunter. But not great. Plenty of other off shelf ammo that shoot better.

I shot my moose this year with my Tikka 300wm. It shoots the 180 grain Barnes like a laser. Although it was only 135 yds, the bullet performed perfectly. 180 grains is definitely not overkill on a moose. My shot was quartering to and went through the inside of the front shoulder, then through the chest cavity and lodged in the upper rear leg.

I would not go down in weight.

I've seen the Barnes 180 grain in 300wm at Walmart recently and a couple other local stores. Some of it is in a new box, black design and harder to recognize.
