Trying to make reloading easier.

As someone just wrapping my head around the concepts before diving into reloading, this was a helpful read. Really appreciating the wealth of knowledge on this forum!

Glad to hear it! I was concerned I was driving these guys nuts with my questions. I feel like in in the valley of despair when i cant fully grasp what these guys are trying to explain. Part of the journey.

I’m I understanding correctly that you are testing in .03 grain increments?

Yes for the PH3 in 6.5prc that I have not dev'd a load for.

Just my opinion, but I think you are leaving a bunch on the table by testing in such small increments. With your 6.5prc as an example you’re really only testing a 1000psi and 15fps window.

Your enjoyment of experimenting reminds me of one of my good friends - he gets a lot of enjoyment over the minutia. I wish it was that fun for me, but the accuracy goal that can be lived with is figured out up front and when that point is hit I’m done and just focus on shooting.

Don’t overlook getting a wide variety of different brands/types of bullets, even different weights of the same brand. I’ve been most surprised rifles sometimes shoot certain weights much better than others.

Sounds like you’re going to enjoy some fun experimenting.

If you want simple, load the 7prc with 70gr N570 and the 195's and shoot it. Mine shot 1" with a 7 grain spread

If 1-1/2" at 100 isn't good enough there are plenty of methods, these vids are worth a look to see how he does it.

Some folks who enjoy experimenting will pre-measure additional powder charges to take to the range in small sample bottles along with a press just to seat bullets, so it’s quick to charge pre-primed cases to double check loads that looks promising. Back home any powder charges not used get emptied back into the can of powder.

Think you nailed my method on the head. I like your post very much as it puts a little sanity back in my method. I love the line " I started reloading so I could shoot more. Now I shoot so I can reload" - I'm glad that I whole fully enjoy the best of both worlds. Seeking the very best is my goal. I just feel like I'm handicapped with the lack of shortcuts at this point of my process. Thanks kindly for the uplifting comment.

. Yeah, I’d probably be happy with those groups. I enjoy Little Crow he puts out some good videos, Primal rights is another good channel to check out if you really want to chase the dragon. He’s a different fella, but reloading OCD to the max.

I know from the 'net that N570 and 195's is going to pressure out low to mid 70's. Knowing that, I shot that pressure spread from 66 to 72 grains and had ejector mark at 72. I then looked at the impacts and see 68 to 70 had little vertical. I'm going to shoot each side of 69, but you listed charges that were higher, so in your case, I would probably go to 70 but you need to shoot the pressure ladder to be sure. There's a thread on here and elsewhere about N570 and 195's in the 7PRC. You can get a feel for the charge weights people are using and where they see pressure.

You can easily get loads that shoot well at 100 yards that are garbage farther out. (High extreme spread and SD). Don't spend your time on those.
I've gone from ES over 100 back down to 12 or 15 with a powder change.

In my opinion, when you get something that works pretty good statistically and on paper, THEN you can make some minor tweaks and baby steps to improve it.

Baby steps on full spectrum powder charges from the get-go is just going slow. It gets to do the same point, slower .

This is exactly where I'm at and want to improve.

Overlay the targets?

Basically stacking multiple targets with groups on top of each other to simulate a larger shot group sample size. Gives you a better idea of the true cone of fire.
