Hey guys,

I just got back into archery after taking a 5 year break and Ive narrowed it down to two types of arrows

Beman ICS hunter classic or the Gold tip hunter XT?

I would love to hear your opinion on these arrows....

I shoot Gold Tip hunters with a 50 gr insert and 125 gr heads. Make sure you get the correct spine. Great arrows, very durable.

Whichever is cheaper. Both are good durable arrows in my experience. Think the gold tips might be more durable but I doubt you will notice the difference.

I’ve never shot Beman. I started with Gold Tip XT Hunters when I got back into bowhunting a few years back. I was only getting the XTs cut off the back end because I didn’t have a saw of my own at the time. I moved up to the Pro Hunter the last year or two. You basically get tighter tolerances. That being said, several of my XTs group with the Pros. I haven’t broken any arrows except for glance offs and Robin Hood. The glance offs only splintered the back a little, but I tossed those as well. I had a deer lay on an arrow but not break it.

I’d go with Gold Tip.

The thing I like about the gold tip hunters is the three price/tolerance levels. I shoot a lot and like to stretch my range. It stings a lot less to lose or break a cheap hunter rather than a pro. Exact same shaft sorted to different tolerances for a third of the price gets me through the off season. Broadheads on the pros.

I have my Gold Tip, XT hunters, cut off, a few inches at BOTH ends and use their FACT system, to achieve 12-15% FOC, wipe the Vane area of, shaft with, Acetone then Alcohol, to get great adhesion for the Vanetec Swift, 2.88" vanes and Nock TUNE them, for really great, accuracy ! GT's are TOUGH arrows ! I cull any that, don't "spin" true, number them and Nock Index ALL arrows, thru Paper to get, best performance. I Fletch them and let Dry overnight then, Nock Index 4 arrows at, a time ! Ranch Fairy on YouTube has, a good Vid on "Nock Tuning". I don't use, a "Cock Feather" anymore either, as I just mark IT with a couple of, ^ using a Sharpie, for the UP or, "cock" vane, now. I can get, 1"-1 1/4" groups at 25 yards, using THIS method, IF,.. I do my part. My son, grandson and I, have used GT's for the last Decade on Elk, Deer and Moose !

I doubt you will tell much difference in the two. Both are well known proven options.

Pretty much my approach and results. I hadn’t nock tuned through paper, but nock tune for grouping.

I plan tune try to determine the dynamic spine via the Dan McCarthy method of flexing the arrow in the bow press, unless I get a Firenock PAPS. I’m trying 4-fletch this summer which should also give finer resolution on the nock indexing. Again, no odd colored “cock” vane though.

Awesome feedback guys. I have decided to go with the Goldtips. I like the weight system idea and think its much easier to do with them over the bemans. thanks a lot for the information!

Good choice. I use the FACT weight too.
Usually around August, Gold Tip offers rebates on Hunter purchases. It’s a good time to stock an extra dozen or so.

I have some Beman ICS hunter pros, about 4 years old and have only lost 1 of them to damage. They are about the most solid feeling arrows I have or have tried. Had GT hunters xt and destroyed a lot of them and have none left. Maybe I just robin hooded them and glances caused shaft failures. Deer Crossing Archery arrows have been pretty good for me so far, using them on one of my bows. Tried some Carbon Express but didn't seem to like them for some reason. Easton Carbon Aftermath arrows for another of my bows, have been good but are showing age now since they are 3 years old or more, have splintered a few but they are inexpensive. Aftermath are the same as Cabelas Outfitter arrows I'm pretty sure, I shoot them interchangeably.

I'm also looking for new arrows since like mentioned all mine are a few years old now and been refletched a few times and many target impacts. Considering the Beman ICS Precision Hunter(formerly Hunter Pro) or Eastom FMJ but not sure I want to step down to the 5mm or 6mm size or just stick with S size. The Aftermaths are H size. I like the idea of the GT add a weight system for the tip inserts.

I used some Bass Pro Blackout arrows which are Gold Tip just re branded. Now Gold Tip Hunter Pro. Nothing going to save them if you robinhood or hit a rock but pretty tough. If I had a saw, I would buy the Hunters and trim both ends of a bare shaft and square them. Basically the only difference from the Hunter Pro's

I bought some gt Hunter xt shafts a while back as well as some victory 204 arrows to try. I cut both ends of xt's and fletched them and installed inserts. Weighed them and my Beman ics pros are within 1 grain of each other. I will use them interchangeably for the one bow. The bemans have the shock absorbing inserts and nocks, they have rubber tails sticking out of them for vibration damping i guess.

The victory arrows are doing well on the Matthews Creed at 65lb or so, will probably get a dozen more.
