Truck Camper Shells

After waiting for six months for an RSI, I gave up. My dealer couldn't make any promises and he had given up on expecting any realistic update from RSI. Also, if one comes in damaged or with the wrong parts (they are packaged separately), get ready to start you wait over. If you are getting one for a Tacoma or Gladiator, that is probably less of a problem, but for anything else, you're taking a chance. I ended up with another A.R.E., this one an HD version. I am totally happy with it other than the price. They are all ridiculous at this point if you're buying new.

I paid $3200 for the top of the line Snugtop with all the bells and whistles in 2020 and I thought that was steep. Guess I’m glad I bought it when I did.

I learned the hard way about how expensive these damn things are. I had ideas of buying one used and getting it painted if necessary....slight problem. I bought a new body style trail boss. New body styles don't have many used truck caps. I ended up dropping the $4500 on a LEER.

I'm in the same boat. I have owned a trail boss since they first came out. I am constantly cruising marketplace and they are super rare to pop up. When they do they are still $1700+

I have a Ranch topper and love it. It's the only topper I've ever owned tho, so I can't compare it to anything.

Id go with the RSI smartcap if i had to do it over, wasnt available for my truck at the time. I have an ARE and its nice enough that i wouldnt go out and replace it tho

RSI Smartcap are alright if you only stay in warmer climates. Had one before...locks freezing all the time, and also no way to secure close from the inside. Real nice build quality though

Instead of finding an old, used one and painting it...I wonder if getting it vinyl "wrapped" would be better. Maybe help it with leaking???

Anybody ever install a decked system over the bed rug? My truck had the rug installed, and I just got a decked. I removed it to install the decked and it has zero interest so far trying to sell it. So I'm considering just putting it back in.

Just found this thread but bought a new Colorado a few weeks back and am now in decision paralysis on caps. I’ve viewed and gotten quotes from Leer/snugtop/smartcap/alu-cab. All came in between $4k-4.5k unfortunately.

I like the idea of color match for that kind of money but also like opening and sliding side windows. Was told on the short beds leer/snugtop or any fiberglass do not offer.

I did find a local company who appears to be selling rebranded aluminum imported tops…but they are half the price, have the features (pop up slider side windows) and local support if something is wrong.

Not seeing any confirmations on F150's specifically, but here's a tundra and tacoma. Imagine you could confirm with Decked.

It's a tight fit, but a good one. The system has an approx 1/2" gap total side to side to accommodate for the normal irregular/unsquare conditions of truck beds. The Bed Rug sucks this gap up and provides a pretty much tight seal around the deck panels and the bed sidewalls. Your wheels on your drawers will rub on the fabric a little which will make them less than sticky, but not entirely free rolling. In the ones I have seen like this, you will end up just wearing down the fabric a bit where the wheels engage the BedRug and with a little time they roll pretty freely, but don't wear through the BedRug itself.

I'm confident itll fit. I think i read some of those. I think its a trade off. Better dust suppression. But may maintain moisture after I rinse things out.

Got lucky, Pro topper for $500 Ram 2500 sb. Solid fiberglass topper. solid windows and screens. No way I'm paying 5 g's for a topper. That's a huntin trip.

I've used ARE, Leer and now I've got an older Callen on the F350. The old Callen is the one I'm most satisfied with, even though they kinda did screw up on the wiring. If you do look at them, watch out for the later years when the kid took over from dad. Quality went down.
