I want to get a client a gift for his upcoming retirement and he likes to trout fish. Unfortunately, if it doesn't have to do with critters that grow antlers, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm looking for something less than $100. When I give a gift I would usually prefer to overspend and buy someone the worlds greatest paperclip for $100 than the cheapest piece of junk drill for that same $100, if you see what I'm getting at.

I would be much obliged if you could share some ideas with me. Thanks!

If he's a drinker, get a nice stainless flask with some A.D. Maddox artwork on it.

If he's a fly fisherman, you could get him a matching fly box with the same print.

This guy builds some cool fly boxes and nets. Pretty pricy for most of them but they are unique.

Nice set of base layers a good idea - I’ve frozen my ass off both hunting and fishing 🤣

Bitterroot nets also does fly boxes and some custom nets.

If he's a drinker you could look for a nice bottle from DryFly Distiller

Able nippers. Around $100, and a totally ridiculous indulgence. That is your hundred dollar paper clip.

I have a few pairs of those, they are ok. By the time you get one of their cool paint jobs they are closer to 200 bucks.

I’ve been pretty disappointed with lots of the fishpond stuff I’ve had. It’s expensive and dosen’t seem that great.

Most ardent trout fly fishermen will have all the terminal tackle they want/desire. You may want to consider fly fishing related items such as books, desktop accessories. Orvis would be a good website to search. Also any online store that sells fly fishing gear will also have items

It will probably surpass your $100 limit, but a nice wood carving would be nice. My dad was as into fly fishing as I am into elk hunting, and about 30 years ago I gave him a really nice wood carving of a brook trout. Man, he loved that thing.

If most fly fishermen are like I am, then he certainly doesn't need any fly fishing gear. My wife hates shopping for me. She always says "if you want it or need it, you already have it".

Ok
2nd vote for able nippers. Or a custom fly selection for his first trip post-retirement.
