Tripod with ball head recommendations

I was just looking at getting a new tripod and ball head for my spotting scope, and possibly in the future for a shooting setup for my rifle. I've seen manfrotto* and sirui* while looking around as well as other brands but i haven't personally messed with them. I know the costs can very quite a bit. I would like to keep the cost to $500 and under. If anyone has any recommendations I'd appreciate it, thanks!
