Tripod Stand Setup

So I am very green to bow hunting and have some questions when setting up a tripod.

The spot my feeder is in to hunt hogs at currently is hot or miss with the wind being right.

I guess really my only question is when you're up in the tripod how does that affect wind? Will it give you a little/large buffer before your scent gets to the ground?

Probably going to end up moving the feeder regardless but curious none the less.

Put the chum where your predominant wind and predominant line of travel of game are in your favor if possible. If both arent possible then you may need to move feeder and stand. Some spots are just not conducive to good hunting setups too.

My step-son and I archery hunt a decent size lease west of DFW - lot's of live oaks and mesquites so mostly tripods. We have 6 set-ups. 2 for North winds, 3 for South winds and one that works either way as it's high on bluff and approaching deer and pigs can't really get the wind on you very well. We also run a couple of sets with morning / evening stands to keep from being spotlighted by the sun.
Think about setting up so you can approach your tripod from a direction that will let you avoid walking where the pigs are likely to travel to get to your feeder.
Consider moving your stand 50-100 yards downwind of the feeder on a travel lane / funnel too.

Agree with Btaylor - sometimes you just can't hunt what looks like a great spot due to wind or access.

Yeah this what I was afraid of. Sitting 400 yards away with a rifle it's perfectly fine, but the wind gets swirly close up due to the location.

Really wanted to avoid moving it since I also have to move a small barbed wire fence that keeps cows out Haha. Oh well, looks like I'll have some work to do.
