Hello,
I have a SLIK 824 CF tripod now. I have no complaints, other than it is heavy. At some point I would like to upgrade & get something that is lightweight & not so cumbersome to haul around the mountains. Wonder if anyone has any recommendations?!

Great tripod, but yes heavy at 3.5 Lbs. The CF-634 is only 2 Lbs.
IMO the Benro FRHN14C at 2.6 Lbs, can support 39.7 Lbs, is the best under 3 Lbs. Here is a link

On both brands you can use promo code promo24 at checkout and save 10%

If sitting, you don't need a tall one, so you can get a more sturdy one without the center column. I don't like the center column cause it pokes down in between your legs and if you put it up it is much more wobbly.

I try to get the least number of leg sections as possible, it makes it more sturdy. Look at total weight of the tripod and then the weight it will carry. That will give you an idea of sturdiness.

I don't use that type so don't have one that comes to mind, but Leofoto has a line that is marketed more towards hunters. You can look at their website for categorization, then search websites for a deal. If you try to look at Amazon, its crazy hard. Ebay is worse, lol.

Thank you for the information. Most helpful.

Lightweight, sturdy, inexpensive - For the most part you can pick (at most) two of these traits for a tripod. It is a trade off among those three traits, so I would figure out which one you might be able to give on and prioritize them.
