I picked up a pair of Leupold BX-4 10x50 from the classifieds today. I’ve read so much about the benefits of a good tripod for glassing. Knowing next to nothing about the subject I think I’ve read every post on here from the past couple years over the past month. After all the reading my plan is a Slik 634 with VA-5 head and outdoorsman adapter. Does this sound like a good plan or are there better options?

Outdoors man’s is a great mount. Sirui VA5 is a good head as well you could save some money and weight by going with a T-024SK Sirui combo. You can buy them from other camera related outfits for less. I just bought this same setup. I also have a VA-5 on a window mount for my vehicle which is awesome. If you shop around you can pick up the head for $120ish now and then.

The Promaster SOCH20 is cheaper and lighter that the VA-5. You don’t need a fluid head for Bino glassing, they are meant for shooting moving video. Pro master style heads are probably better for grid searching because you can lock in the angle and then scan left to right. Then change the angle to search higher or lower and repeat.

The Slik CF634 is one of the most [popular we sell to members of various forums, as well as the VA5 head. Probably the best head under $200.00. Right now you can use code TS22 and get 15% off our combo price. Here is the link. Feel free to call me with any questions. I am here now thru 5:00 today

I bought one of these Sirui T-024 combo's a few weeks ago from Cameraland. It seems like a really nice setup.

Also an excellent choice. Advantage of Slik is it's taller if you are standing and over 6' tall. Sirui folds smaller. Both can be used with TS22 code to save 15%

You can also lock the angle on almost all fluid heads if not all. I have several models of both fluid and non and prefer a fluid head for everything 100% of the time. Kind of like comparing a trophy truck to a 1 ton ford driving down a rough road, sure they both can get you from point A to point B but there is a huge difference in the quality of the ride.

FYI, the promaster SPCH20 looks like a great head and a good deal but it is also a fluid head. Promaster is a brand not a style.

Yes. Worth noting that with the T-024 I have to hunch over slightly to glass through binos. I'm 5' 8". I don't plan on glassing standing up unless forced to so it's not a problem for me.

The VA-5 head is absolutely awesome for glassing with binos.

If you're planning on using a heavy spotter or shooting off your tripod, I'd recommend looking at the Sirui ST-124. Got mine from Cameraland and love it. It's a little heavier (by half a lb.) but it is extremely sturdy.

Finally pulled the trigger on a Sirui T-024SK VA-5 Fluid Head Carbon Tripod Kit and a Aziak Equipment Bino Clamp.

Should be good to go right?
