Tripod help

I've looked for answers in old threads could have over looked it. But I'm looking for good tripod I can use for filming and change out and put my own fluid head on! $100-$200 range! Thanks

that budget it'll be tough. Closest thing will probably be a Slik. But, it's still over your stated budget.

I looked around a lot and ended up going with a Sirui T-1205X. Its a pretty nice carbon fiber that can accept just about any head, but did run right about $225. Lightweight and can hold my Swaro 95ATX with ease. The company makes quite a few different models and I know some were in the $150-180 range when I was looking. It's basically a knockoff of the Slik. Call up 1Shotgear and see what they have-maybe they can hook you up with a nice Slik within your budget. You just have to make a decision on if you want twistlock or fliplock. I went twist because Flips can potentially break off in the cold and when my hands are popsicles, its easier to grab the twists.

Manfrotto tripods

I use a Manfrotto tripod for both photography and hunting applications. You should be able to pick up an aluminum one for ~$200. You will save a few oz if you go with carbon fiber tripod but it will be above your budget.

Thanks guys I'll check into those! I really don't have a budget I just figured that price range i could get a decent one! I know packing in is all about weight. I guess if you want light you have to pay for it!

And after having twists I wish I would've went with flip locks. If the twists start wearing out or break there's not a good way to fix them ourselves. The flicks however usually have hardware you can get to and fix yourself. Personal preference though. It took a long time for my twists to wear out but it happened.

Thanks Jordan! That's something i didn't really think about! I think I'll go with a snap lock! Now just find which one lol!

I know everything wears out eventually, as will my twist lock. For me, it came down to cold finger dexterity and that my hands get cold easy and what I could afford at the time. I'm trying to get my wife to take it for her camera so I can buy another one. Lol
My next tripod will be an Outdoorsmans, which have flip-locks. After seeing my buddy's it is a top notch pod, and there's no chance of breaking one of those!

FWIW I picked up a Promaster XC525C from cameraland, who is a sponsor here, for like $209 shipped last spring on one of their sales. Be tough to top that in the $200 range.
