Looking for a tripod head recommendation. I will only be using the head for a plate with a shooting bag on top of it. Not interested in cheap chinese crap etc. Going on a RRS ascend. Would like the BH30 but it is overkill for what it will be used for.

Leofoto MH 35 or larger. It’s what I run for shooting and glassing. I like it better than the Anvil 30, which is the other solid head.

That’s a big tripod - if weight isn’t a prime concern, a used Arca-Swiss Studioball/Monoball head is big (55mm ball) and stout. It’s an old design and these were the original professional quality ball head and the company originally came up with Arca rail. Used, a good deal is $100, but $150 is more common. Our family must have six of these on big tripods we don’t carry around for glassing and I’ve started using one shooting with a plate at the range. Definitely on the heavy side of 55mm ball heads.

These would work great too. The bigger the ball the better, anything over 35mm seems to be good enough.

I should weigh one of these. Here’s a Coke can for size. If it says Studioball or Monoball it’s all the same :)
