I had one of the first TAD lightspeeds. Well built, well designed pack. Just felt like I was sticking my arm down a sharks throat to get anything.
TAD is proud of their products and the price shows it.
What turned me off, is TAD buyers are like a cult. They buy this stuff and sit on it to resell it.
I had a TAD patch or sticker I can't remember, put it on ebay and sold it for like $75.00!
Back to your question, TAD is top shelf, so I'd say its good to go.

Damn, I wonder what I can get for the workout shorts I’ve been using for the past few years….

Thanks, I’ve owned a light speed years ago it was okay. I was wondering if the sailcloth was really worth the price and if the newest light speed was worth of this cost.

I can't speak to the lightspeed pack, but I do have an Axiom 24 that I currently use as my EDC pack and I really like it, a lot. Build quality and build in organization is top notch.

Check ebay and there's a face book group tad junkies I think.
$425 is what kept me from buying the Axiom pack
I've been buying greenroom 136 gear out of Malaysia. Custom builds, top shelf quality, Pat the owner is a stand up dude. Prices are great and shipping is quick.

Great shorts, I’m actually wearing them right now. I’ve thought of buying the new model but 110.00 is pricey for workout shorts.

The new suspension on the Litespeed is a big upgrade over the previous generations. Thicker and better foam and more comfortable body contact material. Plus the fact that it's a slick version is what sold me. It's not perfect but it's dang close.

If 100 bucks cheaper I’d be tempted to try one.

Anyone have an opinion on this bag?

So I am a fan of TAD and Mystery Ranch packs. I own the OG Litespeed and it has been a great pack but I could only use it for outdoor activities because of its “tacticool” look. It wasn't the right look for business with all the PALS and MOLLE.

I was using a MR UA24 for work. But when I saw this last December on the site, I decided to treat myself to a new work EDC.

I love the slick look and the black magic is a nice simple color for work. It is a bit “crinkly” but not too bad so far. Less noisy than VX42 IMO. The shoulder straps are a HUGE improvement for recent TAD iterations. They finally articulated them again instead of the straight shoulder straps.

I love the transporter tail because I can shove a sweater or jacket into it without needing to put it inside of the pack.

The second external zippered compartment is a much needed addition since the one thing really missing from this pack in all its iterations is a zippered lid pocket. It’s also missing an external water bottle holder but that can be added (I hope).

TAD gear is crazy expensive, but the build quality is top notch. Yes it does have a cult following and they price accordingly. But it will last a long time if past experience is any measure.

I picked up a used Axiom after not being able to find it in stock for a long while and I love it. My favorite EDC bag bar none. The build quality is fantastic.

They certainly don't list many details, until today I had never heard of them. It looks like an over priced book bag and nothing on their site argues against that. It is heavy for minimal capacity.

Without a hip belt, load lifers are decoration, like putting 35 inch mud tires on a 2 wheel drive.

I thought I was crazy for paying the price of a Stone Glacier Avail, but it at least has a functional frame and hip belt.

Ok, after looking at multiple bags I finally found one with a description and it does no favors.

"Combining the best of military design and mountaineering ergonomics"
Sorry, as a veteran and someone who has sorta mountaineered that description is meaningless mush words that scream couch commando. What aspects of military design? A lot of military design is crap design. What exactly are mountaineering ergonomics?

Some more of the same mush mouth nothing description:
"has been carefully engineered to adjust to end-user requirements and adapt to multiple mission profiles." What mission profiles? How does it adapt to them?

My conclusion is TAD is an Operator Lifestyle company. 5.11 is the same, and a bit cheaper.

At one time Tad was prettt innovative. Other than Crye you couldn’t get cargo tac pants with a gusset and other details like front slash pocket.

They popularized the stealth hoodie with the arm patches that everyone copies now.

It seems now they have moved on and sell tacticool items along with a few classics. Try the pants!

I agree that TAD is tacticool company and they make a lot of money off leg humpers.

I disagree about the load lifters, and in fact, when they are on a pack without a hipbelt, they are more load stabilizers. If you carry a shoulder-only pack without load lifters, the pack rides very loose on your back and is more prone to lateral shifting. With the load lifters tensioned, in such a pack, the load has another point of contact and the pack hugs your back more.

Almost every pack manufacturer that is worth their salt adds load lifters to a shoulder carry only pack.

Interesting, I never had an issue with the shoulder strap just being connected at the top of the bag. I have always felt pulling the bottom of the straps tight does the same thing, brings the bag in tight to ones back.

I will pull the hip belt of my SG Avail and leave the load lifers floppy and see if I can change my opinion. With the straps connecting low down on the bag, it will be the most favorable to your point of view.

My current opinion, is that load lifters should only be tight when carrying a load. This holds true with my SO and Exo packs, but those are a different animal from a day bag.

Well, after playing with the Avail, my opinion is unchanged. The design of the Avail strongly favors load lifters as the shoulder harness connects to the pack about 6 inches below the top. Not how I would design a bag without a hip belt, but the load listers still make a minimal difference.

Further, Kifaru does not put load lifters on their day packs without hip belts. Same for Gregory, Mountainsmith, Osprey, and Tactical Tailor.

Day packs that CAN have a belt (not counting any framed packs or the big internal framed packs like the 357 or the Kutthroat):

Shapecharge, Antero, Checkpoint, Minikeg and X-Ray

Day packs that are NOT Omni belt capable:

Echo, Urban Ruck, Bane, E&E

Of all those packs, belt-able and not, only the Minikeg has load lifters. I had a 14’r and it had load lifters on it but I didn’t find the pack terribly comfortable so I never tested them out.

You do you man. We will have to agree to disagree.

Here is a short video Mel Terkla made. He used to be the tactical division designer at Kifaru.

I don't have Facebook, so cannot join the group and watch the video (I did try to watch it).

Is he specifically discussing day packs with no hip belt? If he is, why don't all Kifaru day packs have departure angle adjustment straps (because without a frame and hip belt they cannot 'lift' the load off the shoulders and thus are not load lifters)?

I copied this directly from a post Mel made.

"This post is about lifter straps! Lots of guys without much pack experience think the term lifter straps means that when you pull the straps it is supposed to “lift” the pack/load on your back! I guess lifter straps is kind of a misnomer term! When you have a full suspension pack with waistbelt, once you tighten the waistbelt, then you would pull on the lifter straps. If the top of the stays in the pack are above your shoulder, then you will get true shoulder lift! That means the shoulder straps will be slightly lifted from the shoulders, leaving the weight of the pack fully supported on your hips, with no weight on the shoulders. If the top of the stays are not above your shoulder, then when you pull the lifter straps, it will just snug the top of the pack into your upper back, and keeping the top of the pack from falling away from your back! Now, if you have a shoulder load only pack with lifter straps, then once you set the preferred tension on the shoulder straps, you would pull on the lifter straps to snug the top of the pack into your upper back, but not get any shoulder lift, as you have no waistbelt to transfer the load to...hope this makes sense! I won’t get into how you are able to adjust the tension of the shoulder straps and lifter straps to control how the load is carried, especially with a waistbelt! Below in the pics you can see on the Coyote Xing Pack how the lifter straps are doing their job by lifting the shoulder straps slightly, and transferring the weight to the waistbelt! I was able to do this because as you can see, the top of the stays are above my shoulders. On the Wolf Gray 360° Pack without waistbelt, the lifter straps snug the top of the pack into my upper back, keeping the pack one with me for maximum comfort! Hope this explanation of lifter straps helps you guys that don’t have a lot of pack experience yet!"
