Trijicon Huron 3x9x40 Drop Eval

I go to 60 inch pounds in factory stocks with my RA’s. How would I measure the barreled action shifting in the stock so I could eliminate it from the equation?

Replying from the phone so I’ll figure out how to quote specifically later.

This one was tested with the Bergara SP which has previously tested the Maven RS1 and S&B fixed 6. I had the Trij mounted in the Ruger, shot 3 groups of 10’playing with 22WMR ammo to see what it liked. I then moved it over to the Bergara for the drop test.

I would not trust that ruger to pass a single drop.

Maybe off topic, but where'd you pick up the fixed power S&B? I've been looking at one of those but can't seem to find any distributors in the US.

*******Update- 2nd drop test on the Huron**********

Since the original test did not include locktited base ring bolts, I pulled the scope, cleaned the bolts and applied Vibratight. Let it stand per instructions for 30 mins then reattached scope at 65"lbs.

Cone stayed the same.


Had a buddy spotting for me and he numbered the shots differently than I normally do. Regardless the shots/drops are below

C= confirm-no drop and confirming after established cone that rifle is on
What would have been my 1st shot after a drop is #2
#2 left 18" in the cone
#3 top 18"shift right in the cone
#4 right 18" shift left in the cone
#5 left 36" significant shift to the left
#6 top 36" in the cone
#7 right 36" in the cone
#8 left (3) 36" shifted left
#9 top (3) 36" shifted up
#10 right (3) 36" shifted right and out of the cone



Total of 15 drops and 10 shots today. 21 drops in total
I am uncertain what this tells me. I can state the group size increased by ROM 2"ish from the drops. This looks promising in that the shift was not as significant as previous test. I doubt the shifts would cause anyone to miss a deer from 300 yards and in.
I'll send this to Form for final testing later this week.

I’ll retest in a few weeks. If it holds on the single 36’s I’ll send it in. So far the only sub $750 scopes that have “Passed” and are attainable are the Credo 3x9 and maybe a Burris FF 3x9 (older model and unknown availability since the manufacturer may have changed). I believe we need to test a SWFA 10x. I have one and may add it to the mix. I just do not care for the large exposed turrets on the SWFA’s.

It would be really interesting to see how the Burris Droptine does. Like them for the value/glass quality but I wonder how they actually hold up

I appreciate you posting up your results and sending the scope in also. I was curious about this vs the Credo and emailed Trijicon, figured I'd share their response here as it's mildly related and could be interesting to some who're following here.

I asked if there were any internal build/construction differences between the Credo and Huron lines other than the finish and available reticles. This is the reply I got.

The only differences between the Credo 3-9x40 and the Huron 3-9x40, as you mentioned, are the reticle and the surface finish. The Credo also features an illuminated reticle. Aside from those differences, the glass quality, durability, and overall construction are all the same between them.

This is good news IMO. I mailed the Huron today. If it passes Forms test then it will show me my system allows that much of an error. That pillar 🛏bedding alone at 65” lbs. is not enough to test a scope accurately and it may show one drop could cause a POI shift while hunting. Now granted when you consider the cone at 1.65 and assume most shooters are within .25-.75 of the cone while shooting in the field. That increases the cone size. Then a single drop may only shift the POI 1-2”for a factory non bedded rifle. Something to consider as my accidental drops rarely happen at the bench. They are generally when I least want or expect them.
I believe we generally agree bedding the action helps reduce POI shifts and aids with accuracy. This may prove it on this rifle and I can test later this year once I bed the action.

I put one of these on my M70 in 375 H&H, so far pretty happy with it as I'm pretty sure accuracy issues I experienced earlier with the rifle were caused by a VX-3HD 2-8 and my poor shooting skills. The 'BDC Hunter Holds' are pretty useful for 100, ~200, ~300yd shooting which is all I'll do with this rifle. Glad to see it passed the drop tests.

My 3-9x40 credo dials accurately from the zero up 4.5ish mils, or at least I couldn’t tell a difference via live fire testing. I believe I read that the credo and the Huron 3-9 are the same internals as stated by Trijicon.
