There is no quota on over the counter private land tags….that is until now. Game commission will meet on the 10th to figure out how many tags they will allocate. I don’t think they should reduce public draw tags as there are so few tags in the public draw the way it is. But I am sure the private landowners will wine about it and screw the residents out of more tags.

That’s great news, they need to go back to the a plus system

How does one go about finding landowners that offer tresspass fees? Do people contact landowners and ask or are there websites that landowners post their land and price?

You won’t. The outfitters and brokers sell the hunts and authorizations. The outfitters own the big game hunting in New Mexico. There are very few tags in the public draw for elk, deer or pronghorn. Residents can’t get the tags either. Big game hunting in New Mexico is pretty much for the rich and famous non-residents. We have quite a few landowner tags that are unit wide so those LO tags can hunt on public lands. The residents are banding together to get our hunting back. The public draw tags including buck tags were reduced by 20% for all of those Northeast units as well. The outfitters found a way to screw us out of more tags!

If you personally know a land owner you may get permission but they better be your best friend….other wise pull out your wallet and it better be awfully thick!

The game commission decided to cap the OTC land owner doe tags at 80% this season for some of the Northeast units. They ended Doe tags except youth and cut the LO tags 20% and capped them which isn’t going to do enough.

NE NM is going to take a decade to recover.

They also reduced the buck tags in the public draw by 20% for those affected units. Which I heard nothing about that in the meeting. I have this stuff over in another thread.

That is correct I have edited above. My beef is that they reduced the public buck draw tags by 20%. Eliminating the youth doe/kidd hunts I agree with.
