Trekking poles

Congrats on the purchase. You will really like them and they can save your a$$ too at times. I always use them especially on the hike in and out when the bow is strapped to the pack. They are especially useful for deadfall and if it is raining!

I had cheapo cabelas the first time thinking if I didn't like them I'll leave them on the trail and grab them on the hike out. They stayed with me the entire time and have since upgraded.

I've been on the fence for while on trekking poles. I've also looking at lightening up my shelter and opted for a mountain shelter lt tarp tent. That is what pushed me to getting some trekking poles. I bought a pair of cheap outdoor products poles this week. That way I did dump a ton of money if I don't like them or my new tent.

I used to guide on climbing trips quite a bit, and used them all the time. On hunts, if I don't have my rifle in my hand, I have my trekking poles in hand. They're a great help to you knees when going down, a great help to your quads and calves when going up, and with a sil tarp, you also have a shelter (since a sil tarp only weighs a few ounces, you can take it all the time.) In short, the pros heavily outweigh any cons you can think of. I bought mine, the Leki 6.5's, from sierratradingpost.com for somewhere around $25.
